Suddenly fussy
Hey guys, my son is 5 1/2 weeks old, and has been a little champ with breastfeeding and hasn't been overly fussy. All of a sudden he is getting real distracted when feeding, is on and off the boob, won't latch very strongly, only feeding for very short times, will be showing signs of hunger but when put on the boob he screams. It's frustrating cause he always seems hungry but won't have a decent feed so then won't sleep for long before getting hungry again.
Just curious has anyone else's baby done this? I'm thinking maybe it's some sort of developmental stage or something? And if your baby has been through this phase.. how long do I have til he's back to normal 😅

My son is 6 weeks now and does very similar things, we bottle and breastfeed and I think it's because he's going through a developmental stage and cluster feeding.
Currently going through it so not sure how long it may last but I'd read cluster feeding is usually 2-3days 🙏🤷
My little girl does the same sometimes, she's 10 weeks now. Last week she was very fussy on the breast. She made me feel like she didn't want to be breastfeed anymore or that there was no more milk coming, she was pulling, and crying, then sucking for two seconds and start to cry again but she was ok with the bottle, Suddenly she's ok again and she likes the boob. She has done other times before too for a couple of days. I think it is the developmental stage they go through.
Hi Emma! Went through exactly the same thing a few weeks ago (my bub is 8 weeks). It doesn't last (although it feels neverending 🤪). It's likely a developmental leap, growth spurt or even sleep regression, or if you're super lucky, all three at once, which I'm certain we had 🥴. Hang in there, and in a few days to a week, he should be back to normal 🥰 until the next leap/growth spurt/sleep regression anyway 😅
Mine is doing the same at six weeks! Improving a little now, last week was atrocious and I achieved nothing other than keeping her alive 🤣
Emma, the first 3 leaps last 2 weeks in total. I noticed the same thing happening to me too, but to counter it. I tried to ensure that I fed bubba earlier before the overtired mark, gave him cuddles and tried to put him down to sleep at the first tired signs. The leaps can be hard, my bubba forgets how to sleep so wakes sooner (is. 30mins) during the day and night sleeps also not linking either.
is your baby out of the 2nd leap now? And are they sleeping longer and easier to put down now?
heyyyy...we on 2nd day out of leap. Yesterday and last night was pretty bad. Today, we were able to get him into a 2hr day nap and right now, he just finished his night feed and is asleep (2056pm) whilst I keep him upright a little in case of reflux. So YES!! I feel the extra fussy hasn't been helped by our 36degree heat wave in Sydney. Is your bub less fussy today?
