Gender at 20 weeks

Myself and my partner are at an impasse on whether to find out the gender of the baby at the 20 week scan. One of us wants to and the other doesn’t (I’ll not say which is which). There’s no way one can find out and the other doesn’t, it wouldn’t work for us, we need to come to an agreement but how? Looking for pros and cons of finding out/waiting from those who have been through pregnancy before and any advise on how we can come to a decision. It’s not exactly something we can compromise on.

We got so sick of buying beige and grey clothes 😂 there are very few, actually nice, gender neutral clothes for babies. We also found having a name helped us feel closer to him

Honestly I think at 13 weeks I’ve seen every gender neutral piece of baby clothing already 😂 I need to feel prepared and I also think it’ll feel a little more real and make it easier to get their nursery sorted etc xx

Avatar

I can’t give any advice on that as both myself and my partner wanted to find out the gender, we find out tomorrow.. but I agree with the comments above, as we’ve been buying baby bits the last few months and you can get a lot of nice unisex things however I am already bored of all the beige, grey baby clothes; and I found even though most shops have a lot of options for unisex I would look at things and think “but that looks more boyish” “or a girl would look cuter in that”
I also personally think knowing the gender makes you feel closer to them already, especially the dad as I feel us mums immediately bond with baby but it’s harder for them, but then knowing the gender and if you choose a name and can refer to baby as he/she or chosen name that helps too.

But I have some friends or family members who didn’t find out and they loved the surprise and loved waiting, I’m just too impatient for that xx

I’m the same I see stuff that’s neutral and I go but that’s for a boy 😂🙈

literally I do it everytime I have brought a few neutral stuff but stopped a few weeks back as I felt I was seeing all the same things and lots loookef like it was for boy or girl 😂😅 the shops bring in loads of new stuff but most is pink or blue, I haven’t seen many new items come in over last few months that’s unisex!

We wanted to find out early to make the pregnancy seem a bit more real. We have been working on a shortlist of names (won’t pick one until she arrives and it fits her) - we are from a pretty international family so we are taking our time finding names that are pronounced well across 5 countries 🙈 we also have no family in the UK so being able to share that with our families has given them something to get excited about and more real for the younger kids in the wider family too

I’m at a stage in my life where I am craving certainty so for me it fits to know gender. If I was a bit younger, I would probably be a bit more up for a surprise

I didn't find out with my first and won't be finding out with this little one either.
I love a baby in white anyway, so bought white vests and sleepsuits and a few neutral outfits before my daughter was born (have saved all of her clothes so if we have a girl this time we'll be set) then I enjoyed buying bits after she was born, also people kindly bought us outfits.
Also for bigger items I wanted neutral to be able to use them again.
My husband did want to find out the gender but I didn't. I told him as I was going through the pain of labour I wanted that one decision to be mine as I really wanted a surprise 😂 and after 25hrs of labour and an emergency c section, seeing them hold her up to show me she was a little girl was amazing 🥰

I found out with my daughter and made buying clothes for her a lot easier because I didn’t have to buy gender neutral stuff for her and was able to get everything I needed without worrying about weather or not it was for the correct gender, and was a lot easier to pick a name as there one only one list of names you had to think of before picking, if you’re both still unsure you you get to the date of the scan you can always ask the person who does your scan to write down the gender and put it in an envelope which you can get someone you trust to look after while you decide, that way if you both decided you did want to know the gender you could do something special to find out like a reveal with family/just between the two of you (good videos for memories)or something and if you decided not to find out you never have to open the envelope x

We found out the gender with my son at 17 weeks, but want to keep this one as a surprise (if my patience can hold out 🤣), just think it would be so exciting to not know and find out after the delivery and as this may be our last baby I want to experience both 🥰

Avatar

I really want to know but my partner doesn't. I'm letting him win on this one as he says he really wants the surprise. Yes. There's not a great selection of clothes but but were not buying a lot. Our view is once we find out we can buy it (and not waste money on newborn sizes etc if their a bit bigger)

I found out with my 2 older children and will with this one too.
My reasons for finding out are that I have really difficult pregnancies and need little things to look forward to to get me through it tbh!

Plus, nothing can make that first moment of meeting your baby any more special or exciting than it already is.

My 15 and 12 year old are excited to find out too. I’m going to get an early private scan purely so they can come to it 💕

I wanted to find out but my fiancé doesn't, the way I've come to think of it is we don't get many (good) surprises as an adult, finding out gender via technology has only been around since the 70's, everyone before that had to wait or make their own theories up based on symptoms, obviously if you've got your heart set on finding out that fine also, I just think it's the one thing in our adult lives that will be a raw, genuine surprise that no one can take away from you🙂 there's also a slight chance they can get it wrong, I know of a couple of people that's happened to👀

We didn’t find out with our first and we are not going to this time either. People buy sooo much baby stuff and honestly you really don’t need to my child grew every night it felt flew through 3 months worth of clothes in less than 8 weeks most newborn stuff went to charity shops brand new but washed 😂 a few packs of white vest and white baby grows where perfect. Whilst in recovery from my c section we was on next ordering boys bits but still always preferred him in his white bits 🤣. We loved the surprise and loved calling everyone with the news he was a boy.

We didn’t find out with our first, and her birth was magical! We’re not going to find out this time either… it’s the most amazing feeling meeting your baby for the first time, and finding out whether it’s a boy or a girl in person! And then you have such a special time just you, your partner and your baby in this little bubble before sharing the news with family!
Yes if you do find out the gender beforehand you can buy boy or girl clothes but people buy you stuff when baby is born anyway 😊

We didn’t find out with our first and won’t with this one. Honestly, the surprise of finding out straight after birth was the most incredible feeling. There are very few surprises left in life, might as well cling onto the ones we can still have. Also, we didn’t name her for 3 weeks. We wanted to be sure it was the right name for her and her personality. This would’ve been a lot harder if we’d known the sex and chosen a name before she was born. When it comes to buying outfits, my daughter lived in baby grows for the first three months and they can be pretty neutral anyway. Most of the outfits ppl bought us she didn’t end up wearing. It’s a good way to stop over buying 🤣

Scan needed at 33 weeks

Hi ladies! I just had a midwife appointment (I am 33+5)..the midwife was different to my usual midwife. She's requested I have a scan within 72 hours as she said baby is measuring a little small, however, she did say that it's likely nothing to worry about and it's probably just her measuring me a bit different to my usual midwife. Has anyone else had this? Am a bit worried although babys heartbeat and movements are completely fine.

Finding out gender

Has anyone found out the gender at a private scan at 14 weeks? And has this been accurate?

I found out at 17 with my first but I know a scan place that offers from 14/15 weeks and I’m impatient 😂🥲

Rolling milestone at 5 months - What’s typical ?

Good morning ladies,

My daughter will be 5 months old tomorrow, but there’s still no sign of her rolling. She does tummy time and loves lying on her mat, playing with hanging toys above her and to the sides, but she only lifts her legs and doesn’t seem interested in rolling or moving sideways yet.

Anyone else the same or have your babies already learnt how to roll yet ?

Thank you
