Questioning myself

I’m struggling in motherhood, and questioning my ability to be a mother. My daughter seems to cry all the time sometimes I can’t seem to calm her. She seems very colicky. If anybody has any solutions, please let me know. She also doesn’t wanna sleep on her back, which makes it hard. When we lay her on her back, she moves her arm so much that she wakes up in five minutes. It makes me cry when I can’t seem to calm her down, she is a month today.

Do you swaddle her? Reflexes can wake them up and swaddling prevents that. Her crying all of the time does not mean you're a bad mother - babies cry to communicate that they need or want something. My daughter is almost 6 weeks and cries plenty and it's turned into a game of figuring out what she wants aside from being changed, held and to be fed (the list of things keeps on adding). You can contact the pediatrician and hopefully they can tell if she's colicky or not! It's a struggle but I'm positive you're doing amazing. Keep doing your best which is going to be different each day 💖

Try swaddling! If she doesn’t like a traditional swaddle try a swaddle sack. My babe likes his arms by his face but he kept hitting himself and waking up so the swaddle sack was perfect. It’s really not you! Sometimes babies just have bad days and cry! I second checking with the pediatrician on the colic. I also use a baby massage oil and give a little massage every night before I put him in the swaddle sack and he stays on his back! He’s six weeks and loves it. But every baby is diff so keep trying different things until something sticks!

she hates being swaddled, she will literally try to break out and start crying because she feels her hands aren’t free but when they are free they wake her. It’s a losing battle

which swaddle sack do you use, we just tried zen sack with her and it didn’t work.

We also use swaddle sacks on her - mostly because the swaddles we have are huge and she wiggles out of them fast! We have three SwaddleMe ones (husbands favorite) and one halo innovations one. We will wait until she's sleeping mostly before we put her in but lately she'll want to be swaddled (one of her new reasons for crying lol).

SwaddleDesigns Transitional Swaddle Sack with Arms Up Half-Length Sleeves and Mitten Cuffs, Tiny Hedgehogs, Medium, 3-6mo, 14-21 lbs (Better Sleep for Baby Boys, Baby Girls, Easy Swaddle Transition) https://a.co/d/gQUiAtp

These are the ones we used. He didn’t like the ones that kept his arms in super close to his body. These his arms are up by his face so he can wiggle them but they don’t hit him in the face.

It’s definitely hard. I usually go thru list. Is she fed. Change diaper.burp baby. Do bicycles on legs to try to release gas. Rock baby. - when I still can’t get her to calm down I give her to my husband or mom and they just rock and hold her and that usually works. I have no idea why. Maybe because I’m too stressed sometimes . If you have someone that could help you for 15-20 minutes. To calm baby - hold baby or give you a small break try that. Good luck!!

I will definitely give it a try, thank you so much.

My son hated the swaddle at 1st, but when we get him calm right before he falls asleep, we've been putting him in a thin stretchy swaddle and he stays asleep for awhile. He likes his hands above his head when he sleeps too but he gets the startle reflex and wakes himself up. They're constantly changing and figuring out what they want it's exhausting keeping up. Take it day by day, it doesn't last forever and you're the best person for the job at being their mom ❤️

thank you so much, she breaks out of her swaddle and starts fighting when she notices she’s in one

Showering with my baby? Is it unsafe/ wrong?

Is it weird to take a shower with my baby boy? Is it a bad thing? I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately because I can never shower I’m 11 weeks pp and my husband started a new job. He is gone all day to work and I can’t just leave my baby alone so I can shower. I can’t hear the monitor over the running water and even if he is sleeping if I leave the room he wakes up and starts crying and doesn’t stop unless I pick him up and if I put him down again he cries again and I’m against letting my baby just cry it out. So I’ve been neglecting my own self care and hygiene and it’s really taking a toll on my mental health. So I guess what I’m really wondering is it wrong, and is it unsafe?

Getting out of the house

Please tell me I’m not the only one who finds it near impossible to get out of the house with my LO 😓 She’s 4.5 months and I’ve barely gone outside since giving birth. Where I live it’s still super cold and the 3 times I attempted an outdoor walk with her she started crying after 10 minutes…
She won’t nap or nurse on the go anymore and still nurses every 1.5-2 hours. Up until 4 months her cluster feeding was so frequent I couldn’t go anywhere because of that. I’m completely house bound and going crazy. I feel like every other new mom I see on my social media is out to restaurants, Pilates classes, vacations, etc with their babies and for some reason I’m the only one who can’t handle it. Tell me this gets easier 😭

Edit: *it’s not because I worry about OTHER people with my baby’s crying- her crying stresses ME out especially because I know I’m depriving her of food or sleep because I went further than 30 minutes from our house and she won’t nurse or nap until we get home. It just feels like too much hassle and stress to bother.

Am I over reacting?

MIL came over on sunday to help with childcare, I'm heavily pregnant so she said why don't you go for a nap while I'm here.
I had a 2 hr nap upstairs and during that time she fell asleep on the sofa for 1.5 hrs. I know because we have security cameras round the house which i looked at later on after she'd gone.
My daughter slept for 30 mins on her, on the arm of the sofa and then the rest of the time she was left with the TV on.
I'm really annoyed because we have a wooden floor, a coffee table that she tries to climb on, she had hair ties which she often pulls out and tries to chew therefore a choking risk.
She's 20 months old.
Am I over reacting?
The worst thing is when I came downstairs after my nap, she 'she's not had much sleep only about 10 minutes'. But idk how she'd know that because my daughter woke up ages before she did.

Poo Help Needed 😱

My baby is approaching 6 months and is exclusively breastfed. A midwife warned us to expect that by this point, he would be pooing once a week and would make a big song and dance about it.

My baby poos once or twice a day, sometimes three times, without fail. Probably one in three is very vinegary, and they are in general smelly - I can tell he's pooed on smell alone.

They are also fairly explosive. He's in a larger size nappy than his weight to try and contain the poo as we have frequent blowouts! He also generally only poos in his car seat unless it's first thing in the morning!

Other than pooping, he seems completely healthy. He has maintained appropriate weight gain at his last check (which admittedly was at 3 months), but he's chubby and round. He also has plenty of wet nappies. I'd love to hear from people as to whether this is normal or whether I should be worried that this is an allergy or something!!!

How many poos does your EBF baby do a day / week? Please let me know!!!

Painful bowel movements

Hi all,

My 11 month old has incredibly painful bowel movements, it looks as though her poo is so large (wide) that its agony to get out so she screams. Once the first part is out (usually with some help) the rest comes out fine.

The GP has given her laxatives but this has been going on for months and she can't take them everyday so I try to limit them.

Anyone else have this? She has CMPA but does have anything with cows milk so it's not that.

Thanks x
