Daytime nap sleep cycles

Not sure if this question has been asked before but I can't seem to find it.

How do you teach a 3 month old baby to connect sleep cycles together during day naps? He only has about 34 mins-1 hour each day during the day in his own bed. If he's in my sling he'll sleep through to the next one as I can resettle him.

He sleeps 8 hours solid in the night so he is doing it then. Just not in the day. Then his day naps gets messed up and then bedtime is all over the place because he hasn't had enough day sleep.

I don't know how to help him connect the sleep cycles together. Or is he too young developmentally?

I've read something about 3 month sleep regression and 'crap nap' phase around 3 months because they start to develop a Circadian rhythm. They say put them down drowsy but not asleep so that their environment doesn't change as they wake up. You could try black outs and white noise but my LO is 12 weeks and is exactly the same, most days I just give in to him sleeping in the carrier in the day because we don't have major issues with night sleep. They like to be close still.

It's something that develops with age I think. My older child started to connect them about 4 months but they need to be able to self settle first.
The morning nap is the one that lengthens first.
Definitely in the crap nap stage here so just waiting it out šŸ¤ž

What do you do with them if they end up having shorter naps than they should? Normally a lunch nap should be about 2ish hours but mine still has 45 minutes on the dot.

thanks for your feedback Liz. We do have blackouts and I have rain sounds on at night time and naps. What do you do if your little one has a shorter nap than they need? Do you carry them and hope they fall back asleep?

Same boat my 3m old doesn't seem to want to nap in the day now and if she does it's 45m at most. Mamma is exhausted 😩

I'm going through the same stage and read this...

The sleep regression at three months is not fun for anyone. It marks the start of sudden ā€œcrap napsā€ and usually means it’s tricky for your little one to go back to sleep and stay asleep.Ā

The best thing you can do is try your best to help them extend their naps so they are at least an hour long. That could be rocking, putting dummy back in etc. If it’s not going to happen, move on with your day, shorten the next wake window and try again either at the next nap or the next day.

@Kat try and resettle back to sleep...contact nap, pram etc. But if no joy after 15 mins or so then I just try again next nap.
I remember being shocked because one day at around 4/5 months old..my little girl just suddenly slept for 90 mins as opposed to the 30 min to the dot naps 🤣 trying not to stress over naps this time as it's just a phase x

yeah if he stirs and hasn't had long I just sway a bit but he can sleep for up to an hour plus in the carrier that's why I use it for some of the naps. Mainly so I can get things done or sit down and rest for a while because like your LO he just cat naps if it isn't a contact nap. We sometimes use a dummy to settle him but I don't like to overuse that. If he isn't ready to nap and wants to play, do that and try again in 30 mins or so that worked for me yesterday.

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Rant/WWYD

My sister (youngest, 24) has two kids, 4 & 1, and i (oldest, 30) just have my one who’s 6mo old right now, so i ask her for advice or call her to vent about things sometimes. Well im tired of her turning around and telling my other family members that I’m ā€œlosing my sh*t.ā€ Literally have not lost my sh*t nor have i ever freaked out to her about my baby, i just call her to talk and tell her what stage my baby is in or talk through how im feeling, but she chooses to tell people that im like a complete nutcase or something which worries me that my family is going to start being judgmental about me as a mother or looking at me funny like I’m some fragile ticking time bomb.

What would you do in this situation? I’m already pretty much decided that I’ll stop telling her anything about my struggles, but I’m almost at the point where i feel like it should be confronted because she, of all people, should understand what I’m going through.

Not drinking

I’m going crazy. Baby born at 2.26kg. Slow to put on weight. This last week hasn’t put on any. Been trying to feed him at night and he’s not interested at all. Fast asleep. During day he will have 5 minute gulps and that’s it. He don’t cry for milk. I’ve got to keep offering to him. I try to offer it every hour but I don’t know what I’m doing. HV said nutrition comes after 5 minutes so I should pump first and then give him. I find it so hard. I tried to pump one boob nothing came. The other abit came. Tried giving him express he’s not interested in that too. Sometimes he will go for a longer a feed but not long at all. He’s 4 months and is currently 5.46kg. I have no family or friend support here and wish I had a cook, cleaner and nanny to help with everything so I can concentrate on the little one. I don’t know what’s wrong with him but I’m loosing it. It doesn’t help that my also stressed generally about my relationship and life circumstances. Any advice that will work. Any comfort you can give. I’m fed up. Is this regression - not feeding. He’s fast fast asleep. I’ve been trying to push the nipple in but that mouth is closed shut. I took some clothes off. Changed his nappy but he’s still asleep. Please help

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too
