My boyfriend and I are butting heads a bit about naming our son. Before we even wanted a baby together he already had a name set in mind before we even met each other. So when we found out we’re having a boy he ran and told his family his sons name is O’SEAN(Shawn) and I’m just not having it, I hate the name actually. My first sons name starts with a “J” and I want to keep the tradition going with another “J”Name. My boyfriend and his siblings have names ranging from a-z and me and my siblings are just all “K” I straight up told him the name is ghetto and I don’t care for it. All my friends and family hate the name and so do i, him and I were raised so differently so when it comes to family stuff we definitely always butt heads, and I don’t back down and just like any other time I’m not backing down this time. I like the name J’DYN(jaiden) just spelt uniquely. But I’ve also told my boyfriend we need options not just your option so please come up with other names. When I named my first son his dad gave me full control and was ok with picking the middle name, so this is different for me. I didn’t know some men wanted a hand in naming their child. How can I go about this?

When we were naming our son, I told my husband that we both had veto power and had to agree on a name. You should implement the same system it seems. This way you’re both respected in your wishes

Maybe you two should come up with a list of names you both like together that you can pick from when your baby comes. Maybe a list of 5 names or maybe you will have it picked before the birth. You two can figure out if you like vintage old school names, romantic names, unique names and etc then go from there.
Maybe you can make Sean (Shawn) or another O name the middle name and have a J name as the first or vice versa.

My husband is dead set on naming our kid after his dad. So we are really going to go through it because I absolutely refuse. Since you are not married, you could remind him that you dont even have to list him on the birth certificate if you dont want so he should be more open to compromise if he wants any say in the matter.

J’Sean is an option also if you like it. My first son’s name (Enzo), dad said no to it when we were planning names and I was going through my list then we both agreed on a totally different name. When my son was born dad walked back to me after watching the nurse’s cleaning him up and said “he looks like an Enzo, and I could t be happier”. I think it’s best for you both to have a lists of names and go over them together as options for both of you to consider and meet each other half way.
