My baby will be 6 months on Saturday, so we will start the weaning process but I have a few questions that I am hoping you can all help me with as I cannot find a straight answer online 🙄
I am sure that I have been told by HV and read on and NHS leaflet that I don't have to sterilise my baby's cup, plate, spoons, etc but now I cannot find this information it only states bottles (I thought I could stop sterilising those too) what are mums doing/been told or has anyone a link to share about this?
I don't know if to start with 2 meals a day is too much for my baby, what are mums doing/we're told by health professionals (I am sure that I was told that 3 meals was fine) by meals I mean that I am going to do porridge in the morning and a single vegetable for lunch and/or diner.
My husband and I are very excited to start weaning and seeing what out daughters likes and dislikes are and she has been ready for a long time (since 5 months 1 week roughly) and we cannot wait to have her join us at meal times ( she sits with us but only watches us eating 😔).
Thanks

I don’t sterilise cups or plates, I only wash with warm soapy water. I keep sterilising bottles though.
I’ve started with one meal a day as she’s too small. Decided to start with lunch, then I’ll switch to breakfast and lunch and by 1 year 3 meals and 2 snacks.

Same as Diana! I got a book called how to wean my baby which gives you a plan for the first month! It says once they are good on one meal ie enjoying it, actually taking some of it in, then start on second meal and slowly build up to three. Don’t need snacks til age 1.

We started with one meal a day (vegetables) for a week, then added in another meal every so often (breakfast - porridge etc) now she sometimes had 2 meals a day been going 3 or so weeks) but as we are BLW doesn’t tend to eat too much when it’s not something that can go on a spoon like porridge or yoghurt, but does get little bits off her finger food xx

when do you give her porridge, you still give her milk or just porridge?

We started last week with porridge in the morning and then veg purée in the afternoons if he wants it. He doesn’t like the textured stuff yet so I am just sticking to purée and porridge for now and then will see about adding in more thicker foods in a week or two! I don’t sterilise any cutlery or plates etc but I do bottles c
Thanks, everyone! How are you all doing it with the water?
Like how much are you giving and is it cool boiled water?

I’ve tried the water in a beaker cup but he doesn’t know how to suck it yet! Cup went all down him so that was a fail 🤣 not boiled either it says you don’t need to boil the water now at this age x

I got a free flow cup from Tommee tippee and as soon as she’s got the hang of that I’m switching her to an open cup. I’ll keep the free flow cup for when we go out as it’s easy to carry.

apologies just seen this just porridge as she has a bottle soon after or just before, she has water with her tea
Thank you very much everyone! She had her first meal and it went fantastic. She was spoon feeding herself 😂 and some ended up her nose and in her eye 😂😂😂.
She drank about 30mls of water out of her bottle as she just waved her beaker about and I was worried that she'll get constipated 🙄.
