Will try and make this as short as possible
Baby had all symptoms of CMPA (colic, reflux, mucus poo, nappy rash, occasional facial rash)
I went dairy free and also use pepti 1 (I combi feed 70/30 breast milk/formula) have done this for about 3 months.
The doctor rang me today and said ideally I should have tested dairy again approx 2/3 weeks in to dairy elimination to see if it made a difference and therefore can make a more accurate diagnosis and then next steps. I didn’t get that advice earlier so he asked me to try it now and slowly bring back dairy this week and he will check in on Friday.
Can’t help feeling a bit worried/anxious about this.
Is there a chance my lo could have a more severe reaction if I do this?
Has anyone else tried this and what kind of dairy did they start with or would you advise trying a little normal formula.
Help appreciated x

There's the formula milk challenge to confirm cmpa, not sure how it's done when it's combi fed but for bottle fed only I followed this challenge:
On the first bottle of the morning you do 1 oz cows milk formula and rest your prescribed milk. E.g for a 6oz bottle do 1 oz cows milk 5oz prescribed milk, day 2 increase to 2oz cows milk formula 4oz prescribed milk and so on until the first morning bottle is full cows milk. Rest of bottles in the day are prescribed milk, then slowly switch all bottles to cows milk if no symptoms return. If on any day symptoms come back you stop the challenge straight away and it's then a confirmed diagnosis.
My LO congestion and mucas poos returned so I stopped on day 7 and will now attempt milk ladder with food when he is 1

My boy was combi fed about 60/40 breastmilk/pepti.
We did the milk challenge after being on it for about 1-2 months as they wouldn't refer us to a dietician or keep giving us the formula unless it was confirmed by a reaction on reintroduction , have this appointment now later this month to discuss with a dietician.
We just gave him 1-2 bottles of regular formula we weren't even advised to slowly increase which may be a better method, he had his symptoms back so then stopped and they sent a referral, he said sometimes as their digestive system matures they can tolerate Cow's milk, others you need to wait longer and do the milk ladder when weening.

Thanks everyone, really helpful. I’ll try the formula first have just bought ready made stuff so can easily add in to his bottle tomorrow.
I don’t know if anyone else feels a bit on your own with this stuff, doctors seem v unsure about it all and yeah dietician appts take forever.
Hopefully no big reactions 😓
Thanks xx

Definitely felt like I was doing my own research as referrals to dieticians etc take forever. If your on Facebook there is a cmpa support group which I have found super helpful from parents with babies/children with allergies, sometimes it's best advise you get as some GPS are not clued up on cmpa

Without scaring you, my LB’s reactions did seem more severe at each reintroduction but my GP made me do it 4 times and kept changing his milk prescription so it was a lot for his little body to handle. We ended up in hospital for a little while and he had to be tube fed as his last reaction left him with a very swollen airway/throat and he struggled feeding and breathing so had help with both.
The first reaction on reintroduction was nowhere near as bad though, he just had hives, some mucusy nappies and a tiny bit of blood in his poo. My doctor was so unsure and (in my opinion) generally uninterested and uneducated on the topic. Once we were in hospital and he was seen by a specialist, they gave us reflux meds and put him on Neocate and he’s a completely new baby and is so much happier. The hospital even said the gp shouldn’t have ordered so many tries back on dairy as just made my LB create more histamine which worsened his reactions xx

@Courtney that sounds horrendous 🙁, glad he’s fine now on the new formula & at least they can’t mess you about again. If it doesn’t go well and they ask me to try again I’ll mention this. Any reactions I’m going to stop just worried about that first try. X

I completely understand that! It’s so hard because you don’t want to hurt them or make them ill but also want to trust the information/advice of gp’s. The first go definitely was one of the mildest ones and was pretty much the same as pre-gp advice. I think we only got to the point where we were in hospital because the doctor kept guessing and swapping everything over rather than following the usual protocol for it. Even refused to keep prescribing neocate when I showed up with his discharge letter telling them to. I had to get the paediatric ward on the phone to talk to the gp receptionist to sort it out 🤦🏻♀️ x

I done a reintroduction... CMPA is a delayed reaction so hopefully your LO won't have severe reaction. Just Try 1 dairy products and look out for ANYTHING Bloting rash, discomfort .... My little one face came up with a rash within 24hrs and that's was enough evidence for me. I reported it as her skin is usually flawless and that was evident to me ...this was enough for her diagnosis.
I was breastfeeding and all I ate was busicuts which obviously contained milk....
Don't be afraid just try something whether it's via you ad your milk or direct feeding and take photos too.
