Hey mammas, I’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetes unfortunately in week 27 - anyone who has been through the similar and can advise what steps they took to prevent complications 😅🥲

Hi I was diagnosed with GD. I was stressed at the start.. Don't be... Just make sure you walk loads to bring your sugars down.. Also if you can not control it.. And they give you tablets.. Its mot end of the world.. You will name to eat what you want, and they should bring your sugars down.. But makes sure you walk as much as you can to eat and enjoy.. Obviously all in control. They told me my baby is too big etc. And ill have to be induced early but, he was natural delivery and was 7.3 pounds.. Sooo don't worry just keep walking as I said and everyone in control.

I actually has him a few days early and because I went for long walks it bought my sugars down.. Also I did eat eveything but in portions, and would go for them long walks. It is very hard to not what you want...but towards the end I gave up and the tablets helped my keep my sugars down. I just avoided insulin.

I'm now 28 weeks and got diagnosed at 21 weeks. You should be referred to a diabetes educator and a dietitian shortly.
You'll have to make some changes like decrease carb intake and increase protein, have low sugar snacks.
You'll get a blood glucose monitor and have to finger prick 4 times a day to check your blood glucose levels. Your educator should show you how to use it.
Even if you do everything correctly you can still end up on medication or insulin. All my after meal blood glucose readings are fine. My fasting ones are high. I'm on insulin at night just for overnight to help bring my fasting numbers down.
Just remember you haven't done anything wrong and it's not your fault. It's not caused by eating too much sugar. It's all to do with your hormones and placenta!
thanks 🙏 that helps to hear
thanks 🙏

Hi guys! I have my first GD group session next week. I’ve been trying to google what a healthy range is but haven’t found anything. I know there’s fasting and a 1 hour mmol/L but what exactly is considered a health range. Don’t want to wait until next week to find out as you’re right it is stressing

I think it depends on what state you're in and what your Dr says.
I test one hour after meals.
My fasting has to be under 5
And under 7.4 for meals

ohh okay, Thanks so much for the clarification. You’re right best to see what the dr says 🙏
