Nuby Rapid Cool

What do you all think of these? Are they worth buying? The instructions say to make the formula in the nuby bottle but then it’s only suitable for one use. Has anyone tried doing it like this?
- have a flask of boiling hot water
- pour an ounce of boiling hot water into mam bottle
- add powder to make hot shot and swirl
- pour remaining ounces of boiling hot water for feed into nuby bottle to make cool
- add cooled water from nuby to mam bottle then feed to baby

That’s how I do it so it doesn’t need sterilising in-between bottles and can be used numerous times when out and about all day!

Avatar

That’s how I do it too, easiest way I think to make a bottle whilst out x

Avatar

Yeah. I absolutely love mine x

Avatar

This is how I do it - so much easier as you don’t need to sterilise as said above. Takes about 3 hours I think to reset before you can use it again.

Avatar

I thibk they are great but unsure on the 'hot shot' method as how do you know its enough hot watet to kill any bacteria?! It is annoying only being able to use them once though

Avatar

Thanks for the reassurance all - definitely makes sense to use it just for water so you can reuse it rather than one use if doing formula in the nuby bottle!

Avatar

When I move up a bottle I do a test on the prep machine and measure what it gives out

Avatar

for the hot shot amount? Good idea!

Avatar

yep! I tried to Google it and really struggled so figured that was the best way! X

Avatar

great thanks! So you use the exact same method I said above with the hot shot etc? I might buy one! Do you leave it for 3 hours between each feed so that it resets? X

Avatar

yes. The only difference is I measure the bottle water out first (so I can use the measure on the side of the bottle) as I find it hard to read the measurements in the nuby. It steams up so isn’t the easiest to read. Once I’ve transferred that into the nuby and then do the hotshot amount. So for example a 5oz bottle… I measure 4 oz in the bottle and pour into nuby, I then measure an oz and do the hot shot, wait for nuby and then bottle made. I’ll be honest, I didn’t know this 3 hour reset was a thing 🤣 I don’t think I have used it more than once in 3 hours mind!

Avatar

ah thanks this is super helpful! I have wanted to use it like this but didn’t have the confidence as it wasn’t the way the instructions said so I’m glad other mums are doing it too as it makes much more sense! Do you use mam bottles? I do and its really hard to see what an ounce is but i guess i could use the lid as the measurements are on that :)

Avatar

i burnt my fingers a few times doing it in the lid 🤣 I am using MAM, 1 oz is level with the coloured bit at the bottle, like to the ridge. If that makes sense? X

Avatar

oo thanks! You are super helpful haha!

Avatar

do you use a normal flask for the hot water? If so, do you sterilise that? Do you sterilise your nuby bottle?

Avatar

yeah I’ve just got a normal flask. I don’t sterilise the flask because I figure it’s hot water from the kettle and I would pour that straight into the bottle. My thought process is I don’t sterilise the kettle… that may not necessarily be right. I do sterilise the nuby, I’m not sure why… it only has boiled water in it (same as the flask) but I use a cold water steriliser and just shove it in for the 15 mins then put it back in the bag. I think I just did it once and now it’s habit!

Avatar

Definitely worth buying love ours!

Avatar

very true!

Avatar

Do you all sterilise your nuby bottles even though its just had boiling water in there?

Avatar

I just use one flask with boiled water. and one flask of cool boiled water and does the Same thing but saves buying a rapid cool and faff of waiting for the rapid cool to work

Avatar

I do the hot shot method and I’m wondering if people sterilise them too, I usually sterilise them after using them by just filling them up with kettle water and leaving them sit for around 10 mins, although sometimes the water inside cools straight away (as this is what it’s meant to do) so unsure if it actually sterilises them but I don’t do cold water solutions or anything. I figured that as only water is going in the flask it shouldn’t need thorough sterilsation, my little one is 10 weeks old and I’ve been doing it this way since he was born and (touch wood) he’s never been ill xx

Avatar

This is how we make all our bottles even at home, it’s so quick. I only sterilise the nuby if I don’t do the hot shot method. I just fill it with cold water and add a quarter of a Milton tablet x

Avatar

okay so if you just put water in the nuby you don’t sterilise it, you just wash it up like normal?

Avatar

yeah just wash it with fairy liquid x

Avatar

do you sterilise your milk powder pots? And do you pour boiling hot water straight from the kettle into the nuby? I read somewhere it should be 70 degrees but how can you check with kettle/flask water?

Avatar

No i don’t sterilise the powder pots. Just hot soapy water. yes you can pour straight from the kettle. i just brought a good flask for boiling water on the go and seems to stay hot for a good few hours. No problems so far and my girl is nearly 7 weeks x

Avatar

thank you! 😃

Avatar

I used to sterilise my milk pots but I put a post on here and everyone said as the milk isn’t actuslly sterile anyway it’s no point as the hot water kills the bacteria from the milk anyway, so now I just wash them out with hot soapy water and fill from there, my little one is 11 weeks and haven’t had any problems doing it this way. Yeah I pour straight boiling water from the kettle x

First birthday party timing

What’s the best timing for a first birthday party? (Garden party at home)
Currently 9.5m old, on 2 naps roughly 9 & 13:00. Thinking 11:00-14:00? Is it likely they will drop to 1 nap by then?

My baby is not even 4 days old and loves to roll on his left side to sleep.

No matter how many time I correct him back on his back he still rolls over. Should I be concerned? His bassinet isn’t wide enough for him to fully roll. When he side lays he can’t go farther than that.

I’m just wondering if any of your health visitors have made you feel like you’re not doing a good job as a mum by asking questions?

At what age did your baby start using pillows and duvet?

Perhaps a silly question, but as a FTM, I'm not sure when I should introduce my baby to sleep with a pillow and duvet. He is going to turn 12 months soon and that thought just came to my mind- I have no idea when it should happen!

What tog number is the recommend one?
