Health visitors

I’m just wondering if any of your health visitors have made you feel like you’re not doing a good job as a mum by asking questions?

What did they say? Mine was helpful as I can concerns my son wasn't having enough milk. So they all reassured me my son was doing well

No. They have always been helpful.

My health visitor missed his 2 year check up and showed up just before his third birthday to tell me he’s really behind and it’s pretty much my fault. She said she would send an email with what to do next. She called 2 weeks later angry saying she sent the email and I have not attended the walk in. I’m frantically apologising that I did not see it for her to soften her tone and say it’s her bad she didn’t actually send it. She has not checked in since. He is now 4 and I have an appointment at the home for the 1st of April because I told her when she called last week that I feel the system as a whole has failed me and my boy. I’ve shown up to appointments to be told they double booked it for someone else. I’ve been called to say they I’ve missed an appointment and they sent a text and when they relayed the number it was not mine and I hadn’t had an issue with these texts and appointments prier to this. Her reasoning being she sees too many kids now and it’s hard so she set up this up

This for April. To do what I don’t know because she’s not done anything this whole experience but make me feel like I am failing

We’ve had some awful experiences with health visitors, the worst appointment thankfully had a 2nd health visitor there who booked a follow up appointment with a different person, who then basically told us to complain. So at least they as a service recognised how bad she had been! It also showed us that there are some good ones, but we don’t have a lot of time for them.

Was she saying it about the baby but asking your husband's opinion, to see if he had the same concerns? Rather than about you? That's what I would have assumed

Avatar

Yes! My health visitor had my crying when I just asked for advice (granted I do have ppd but still). I won't be asking her for advice again. She also gave me advice that wasn't developmentally age appropriate for my baby and then pulled out the "when my kids were that age they did xyz...." To back up her incorrect advice!

Mine was so rude when I had my c section dressing removed, looked at it all funny and said “ wow you’ve got quite the overhang” 🫣 5 days pp and I was lost for words, most probs took it to heart when she didn’t mean much by it but some things stick with you don’t they x

Nursery

Hey mummies and daddies, has anybody got experience with baby not getting used to nursery? My daughter started at 12 months (a month ago) and still has a meltdown every time we drop her off. How long until it settles? I worry that she’s just not happy there :(

2 months vaccination

My 2 month old baby girl just got her vaccination today and she’s been super sleepy, only sleeps then wakes up, nurses a little and whines until she falls back asleep.
How did it go for your babies? Any tips on making her comfortable? Should I be waking her more ?

My fault apparently

Basically I have a 5 year old son and I'm having a little girl in October but unfortunately I don't have my son living with me and my unborn daughter can't come home either it's because of domestic violence records cohesive behaviour physical and mental abuse from him and hes always yelling at me saying it's my fault because I was in care and I'm on methadone it's killing me inside

Night shifts

How are we doing night shifts with our partners?

My partner is back at work so I only wake him up for nappy changes (my back still kills me after c-section). I breastfeed and our little dude eats every 2-3 hours and then takes a while to settle again. I know if I passed him to my partner, it would just be another thing to wake baby up even more. And I feel bad because he’s back at work.
So I spend most of the night awake.
3 weeks PP, so my milk supply is still calibrating and bottles aren’t an option until 5 weeks or so.
I also really struggle with day time sleeping and with going to bed early, so the idea of him taking baby 7pm-1am and me doing 1am-7am would also cost me sleep.

I’m so tired, I’m absolutely losing it 😭

6 weeks sleeping short

Is 2-3h sleep still normal for 6 weeks old? I thought they'd longer stretches by now

Pacifier

Any tips for getting toddler off pacifier? She doesn’t use it as much as she used to but it seems like when she’s sleepy or trying to self soothe she wants it but I’m trying to get her off of it completely she’s almost 2 and I don’t want it to effect her teeth or anything
