Hi Ladies,
I have a wedding tomorrow so getting a regular mani and pedi. I am due next week but the lady here told me normally nail polish isn’t allowed during labour. Can anyone confirm? If so I’ll just have to remove it before I go in but I don’t understand why it would be an issue.

When you get hooked up to monitors you shouldn’t have polish on

Unless you are getting a c section I don’t see why not.
I had nail polish and had a vaginal delivery

Same thing for surgery etc
Because nail polish prevents the sensor's ability to precisely detect oxygen levels, it can affect the results. The nail is an important area for detecting cyanosis (a bluish discolouration caused by low oxygen levels). So if you have nail polish, the pulse oximeter may struggle to monitor this area efficiently

I haven’t given birth but I had surgery recently and I got the same advice about mail polish. Better safe than sorry I suppose

It’s preferred not to. They had an issue with my polish during labour with my first born.

Ok thank you ladies. I guess I’ll remove it before I go in. At least my nails will be shorter and done so I am comfortable that way at least. But toes are still ok right? It’s just hands I need to remove it from?

Toes too (if anything) do a very light colour. Almost translucent.

They mentioned because they need to see your oxygen levels. Nails can gives us and idea of how your are doing in terms of oxygen saturation but they have oxygen levels anyways and they just need one finger for it. I'd say just pack your polish remover to be prepared in case of. I had my nails done with each of my 3 births never a problem

I had gel Polish on and no one said anything about it interfering with the machine I was hooked up to
