Nutramigen… Help!

Yes we used carobel thickener and was great!! The formula is really thin so he getting alot more trapped wind with it, being in pain and being sick with it. Definitely worked for us! Did they mention about weaning LO onto it?

Nutramigen still contains milk, it's just more broken down (hydrolysed). You may need to ask for an amino acid based formula that contains no cows milk at all. We are on neocate.

I cant advise on thickener, my boy had bad reflux but we didn't want to risk more symptoms by using gaviscon or thickeners. Once he was on the right formula, the reflux really settled down x

Yes, what the professionals don't tell you is that Nutramigen still contains milk. My LO was put on this which made him worse. It was only when he was put on a completely milk-free formula did the symptoms of CMPA go away xx

no he didn’t mention anything about thickener! All he said was don’t expect a miracle overnight, it will take a while to work. How many scoops do you add to each feed? Yeah see I think that’s what happening he’s got more wind so making him unsettled and in pain x

I've found that prescription formulas DO tend to be a miracle overnight! Not for all symptoms but for most. My boy was a different baby within 24 hours and symptom free after about 6 week x

how long did you leave it until you asked for it to be changed? I don’t reckon my GP will change it as she’s given me 4 tins to trial and we went private for consultant xx

@Sian 2 days 🙈 I had been messed around by the doctors so much as I'd told them he had a milk allergy but they treated him for reflux and basically made him suffer for longer than he needed to just because they wouldn't listen to me. In the end I was back and forth to the doctors every day. Finally they listened and put him on Neocate at 13 weeks old and since then he's been a different baby xx

@Sian think he was on 6oz bottles at the time and sure I used 1 scoop. My GP told us to get it off amazon but you can get it on prescription. My boys cmpa symptoms were eczema and mucous in poo. It took just under 2wks for these to competely go for us. Like the girls said it dies still contain some cows milk so keep that it mind but personally I would give LO a chance on the thickener x

I keep reading that usually symptoms improve quickly but the consultant told me about 3 weeks! He just won’t settle enough to even sleep now, he was awake for 8 hours yesterday cos he was in pain and the so overtired 😩 x

that’s what my doctors kept doing is saying it’s just reflux and prescribing him more meds! The gaviscon made him constipated so we stopped it all together. I’ve been to docs 4 times and they finally referred me but the referral can take months so ended up going private! Xx

everyone I've spoke to has seen pretty much instant improvement! Bless him it's awful when they're so upset. I was the same as Lillie, kept going back to GP until they listened and gave a different formula. I went 3 times in one week and in the end, I just did my own research and requested he be prescribed neocate, that's been magic for us since x

We also use optibac probiotics and they have really helped x

@Sian same for my LO. They prescribed gaviscon which made him constipated and after 3 days of him screaming in pain from not being able to poop I was back at the doctors with them telling me they couldn't do anything for him until he hadn't pooped for 7 days! It took for me putting my foot down and telling them I wanted a milk free formula to try for anyone to listen and for me getting lucky with a sympathetic doctor. Up until that day I was fighting a losing battle xx

my son is on 4oz so maybe half or 1 scoop should be enough? I can’t get it off Amazon until weds! I’m gonna give it as we’ve tried everything so far so worth a shot. He had mucus in his poo, unsettled during and after feeding, sick etc x

@Sian yeah give it a go. It does have a little guide on the back of the box with how much to use. Is he drinking the formula at all?? My boy wouldn't at 1st so we had to ease him onto it. We would do 5oz normal formula mixed with 1pz nutramigen then if he drank that ok next day would do 2oz mixed with 4oz x

My daughter was like this at that age we got prescribed sma althera to begin with but no improvement and cried hours on end. We then got prescribed nutramigen but luckily enough for us she been settled on it ever since. Family member was prescribed nutramigen but made there little one worse and in the end was put on neocate and has been good ever since. Keep on at your doctors. My doctors did not want to know to the point where I was being that annoying mom who kept getting on there backs but that’s with being passed pillow to post with HV and GP x

Go amino acid based. Neocate is great. You can also use sprout.
Our boy reacts to hydrolyzed formulas, but I'm still bf. I accidentally had a sip of my husband's full cream coffee, spat it out and he STILL reacted next feed 🙃

Were CMPA, soy, egg and gluten free. It's amazing how their little tummies react!

Also you can buy neocate in chemists but it is expensive w/o a prescription
