My little boy will be 1 month tomorrow 🥰 and I am thinking of getting the copper coil.. Has anyone had this? Did you have any side effects? How soon after birth did you have it inserted? I had a c section, so I'm not sure if it will be more painful when inserted, so I would just like to hear people's experiences really 🙂 Even if you had the copper coil before having a baby, could you please share your experience, thank you!

I had the copper coil around 4 years ago as I wanted a break from the pill. My periods became so heavy and the cramping was honestly excruciating. I think I had it in for around 4 months before having it taken out as I couldn’t bare it anymore. It may be different from individual to individual and maybe I had a bad reaction to it, but I wouldn’t recommend based off my own experience 😫

I had one for 5 years that was perfectly fine then I had it replaced with one that it turned out had stuck slightly in the uterine wall and the cramping was so bad every month I had to take codeine to be able to sleep and I had to have it out.
That said, I hadn’t had babies then and I now have a 4 week old and am probably going to get another pretty soon. I don’t get on well with hormonal contraceptives so the choices are limited. I think provided the coil is where it should be it’s fine. Bleeding each month was slightly heavier and longer than it would be without it in though, but fertility comes back immediately when you have it out.
Not gonna lie, having it inserted was horrible. When they measure your uterus with a sound I found it more painful than my c section recovery, but again - it might have been worse because it was pre babies!

@Lauren I've read a lot about the heavy bleeding and cramping, but I didn't actually know anyone who had it, so thank you for sharing! I'm definitely swaying away from the idea now 🤣

@Nicky ouch, that sounds painful 😢 I was also considering it because it doesn't contain any hormone, but I think I may have to re consider! Thank you for sharing xx

I had to copper coil and absolutely loved it. It did make my periods heavier for a year or so but they settled back to normality after that. I loved that there were no hormones and my mental health improved so much after years on the pill and implant. I did get pregnant on it though after 3 years, but it's extremely rare that happens 🤣

Thanks, ladies. I have decided not to go with the copper coil 🤣 I will be researching alternatives xx
