Can I ask a question about the lactose. My LO has been fine with milk but for the last 4 weeks he’s been getting runny or sticky poos and going way more regularly. Poo sample done and not caused by an illness. Doc just said it’ll get better on its own but it’s been weeks. When I’ve reduced his milk, the poos seem to be more normal (although he hasn’t had a solid pop in ages).
Can they develop a lactose intolerance at 18 months? I’ve tried giving him oat milk this morning and he won’t touch it!

Has he had any antibiotics or a tummy bug recently hun? x

temporary lactose intolerance can come with a vomiting and diarrhoea bug. It can just be harsh on their stomach, if they are happy, stick to less and build it up slowly

exactly how my little one got it, we switched to lactose free for about 8 weeks to give her tummy time to recover. Though she was a baby at the time so may be quicker with a toddler x
Thank you! The doctor asked this but he has no illness previously! I think ill cut right back and build up like you said x

I think it doesn’t necessarily mean an intolerance but milk is essentially a liquid that is going to make stools more loose the more you drink x

I can only suggest to try different milks if you can. My little one has cows milk allergy since about 5 weeks old he was diagnosed.
I started to have oat milk (as breastfeeding) and he was still reacting and weirdly it was making me feel nauseous.
We've tried several of the alternatives and have finally settled on a pea protein one called mighty. He now has a full bottle of it at 18 months as I'm trying to wean from bf. It's taken about 15 months to find one he didn't completely refuse but I put that down to bf too. Hope you have better luck! Hope this helps in some way.

My little girl developed lactose tolerance in July. You can buy lactose free milk (and cheese) and they taste exactly the same. Eating out is difficult though. Read the labels on everything as it's in all sorts on their snacks and premade meals!
We are still waiting a paediatric referral but it's been ages!
