My 2 1/2 year old son is up to date with his immunisations. He’s been offered the flu vaccine. He doesn’t go to nursery either. Should I let him get it?
I used to get it when I lived with my mum but haven’t had a flu shot in many years (I neglect my health that’s the only reason why)
I’m not an anti vaxer btw.

Personally, I think it's down to you.
Up until this year, I didn't even know that adults can get a flu jab yearly.
I'm 37 and they don't tell you these things so when I got flu in January I had it literally for 2 weeks starting on New Years Day, was then fine for 2 weeks, February- same thing and then the same in March, my doctor asked me (because at this point I decided to see a doctor) when or if I've had the flu jab... I said I think I did when I was at school and asked when I should have it updated 🙈 I was embarrassed when she said I could pay for it every year... I had no idea!
Personally and again, it's a personal choice, I'm getting mine done again, and when my baby is born and I have the option, I'll be getting them one. At that age, they won't remember a thing, and the flu in the UK is terrible. Even if the child is at home, they can still catch it from people visiting the home, out and about, etc...
But ultimately, it's whatever you feel is best for your little one 😊

I would say absolutely yes. Vaccines protect everyone.
As Kris said there are still many ways your little one could pick up the flu and if it were me I wouldn't even take the risk.
So I'd say, definitely get him the jab... maybe see if you can get yours at the same time?

It is entirely up to you but your child doesn't have to be at nursery to catch flu. Can be elsewhere like parks, shops etc. Even if you are jabbed you can still catch flu but it won't be as severe.
I get my flu jab for free as I work in a care home but if someone in your household isn't in good health you can also get it for free. If I had to pay, I would rather pay £13 than become seriously poorly xx

Up to you. You do what you think is beneficial to him and your family.
Thank you ladies. I was going to let him have it but when I took my 7 month old for a blood ( this was months ago with my 2nd son for something completely different) me and nurse was chatting away and we ended up talking about vaccines etc and she literally said to me “aww no your going to put your boy through all that. My Daughter never had any vaccines and she nearly a teenager and is never sick.” And obviously a nurse saying that to you is going to spark some anxiety about it now.

That's actually really unprofessional of a nurse to say that to you xx

I actually can't believe a nurse said that to you! Almost all (apparently there are a rare few that are different) health professionals would strongly encourage you to get vaccines. Your nurse seems to be suffering from survivor bias, just because nothing happened to her daughter doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
In my opinion, the side effects from the vaccine aren't anywhere near as bad as the effects of the disease itself so I would always vaccinate whether they were in nursery or not
I thought so too. I was very taken back by what she said.
I had 2 midwife’s talking against vaccines as well but their opinion didn’t phase me at all.
I was really taken back by the nurse specifically.
Both my boys are up to date with all vaccines.
