Since last 2 days, whenever I feed my baby, he is constantly grunting, exerting pressure to poo. He is so uncomfortable feeding. He is not constipated as he is pooing more than 3 times a day anyway. His poos have been a bit loose since birth, so I am not concerned about that. Anyone else experienced this with their babies?

My baby used to do that for the first 2 to 3 months of his life. It seems babies don't know how to poop. You might see him pushing but he's not pushing the right muscles. It takes time for them to get the hang of it.
Now most of the time he poops okay but when I eat dairy ir something else that doesn't agree with him, he gets really gassy and he struggles a bit more to push it out, like the poops when he was younger. I feel gas is harder to push out than poop for him.
Now if he's struggling, I feed him (breastfeed) he poops better. It seems feeding calms them and looses up the muscles.

he is 5mo

is bub due for a bigger teat size?
sometimes bubs grunt in frustration of needing more milk

@Rashmi mine is almost 5. It might be something you're eating if you're breastfeeding. It's really tricky to pinpoint what though. You need to make a food journal and start eliminating food. It's hard work😅
If formula feeding, then maybe what Taylah said.

He is breastfed only. I have been dairy free since Aug cuz he used to spit out a lot. I wonder if it is something else in my diet. However I haven't been able single it out as I haven't made any changes to what I eat

Mine is the same, he has reflux. Dairy makes him gassy and his reflux gets worse. I keep thinking I'll cut out gluten and egg as well but it's so tricky and limiting.

I know. Things we mothers have to do 😞

Exactly. My husband keeps suggesting we give him formula instead even though I've told him the benefits of bf and I want to bf. He thinks he's helping but it just makes me upset and angry😒

I don't mind mixed feeding. Honestly, I wanted to keep my son on formula once a day so that if I'm not around and I couldn't express also, there is option available for my husband to feed him. However he hasn't accepted any of the rice based formulas too well. The aptamil cow allergy formula also has some dairy element. In short, I have been unsuccessful finding a formula that my baby accepts and is dairy free

I thought of mix feeding but my breasts get too full if I skip a feed and I need to pump. I hate pumping haha.
Have u tried goat milk formula?

@Kadija No I haven't. Will give it a try

Let me know how it goes. It seems our babies are very similar. I might try mix feeding again if it helps

Sure
