Hi! I’m due in late November (33 weeks) and I was planning to have my baby at Mater Mothers South Brisbane as a public hospital. I do a GP shared care model. Well I’ve just moved out of catchment in my 3rd trimester and I’m trying to work out if I’m still allowed to give birth there as a public patient, or if I need to change hospitals? Has anyone been through this before?

Where's your new catchment?
Just don't update your address 🤷♀️

New closest is Redlands. My GP said the same thing about the address, but I’m worried when I have to fill in paperwork after baby’s born that they might notice and then charge private fees

Why would they charge you private fees in the public hospital?

Just put in your old address, pay for mail redirection with Aust post

Not answering your question, but relands is amazing. So if you Are made to move its a really good one to move to.
You could always ask in A round about way. Like " if we were to move before I give birth what happens"

If you’ve birthed there as a public patient they won’t charge you private fees, only if you register as a private patient while there will they charge you

I had midwife care at Redland hospital and moved out of the catchment in 3rd trimester. I changed address and asked to stay to not move my care to new hospital and there where no issues.
Redland hospital was great. No private fee - just a longer drive when our baby ended up in special care and I was discharged.

the Redlands are awesome much prefer the Redlands over the Mater just my opinion tho! it’s a lot smaller then maters an the maternity ward team there are absolutely amazing

I moved out of catchment after starting at Mater public and still gave birth there. Only different was people still in the catchment get free visits at your house from a midwife and I didn't. I had to go to a centre to get the usual check ups done

I had my bub at Redlands last year and I cannot fault them. The midwives and nurses were amazing.
