Is there anything I can give my 1 week old baby to ease his constipation? He’s gone from pooing everyday several times to nothing in 24 hours. He is getting agitated and looks so uncomfortable when trying to poo and it’s waking him up during his sleep time. I’m a first time mum so it’s stressing me out seeing him like this 😕
I’ve tried the ‘bicycle’ movements on his legs but doesn’t seem to do anything

You can try giving a little cool boiled water between feeds, keep up the bicycle legs and tummy massage and sometimes a bath can help!

Im on the same boat mommy my baby is struggling shes 2 wks old i also do the bicycle movements and no relief she seems to be gassy and constipated had drs appt yesterday she said that is completely normal

Tummy massage or speak with your MAC PP midwives and see what they suggest

Also what formula is he on?

Please speak to your midwife /health visitor for advise. Baths and baby massage are good along either bicycle legs but please dont give cold boiled water its very dangerous to give babys.

cow & gate first infant milk

Our baby is nearly 2 weeks old. We had the health visitor out on Monday and we had the same issue. She said FIRSTLY to try one less scoop of formula and the same amount of water. So for example for a 3oz feed still use the same amount of water but 1 scoop of powder less. THIS SHOULD ONLY BE DONE AS A ONE OFF. if this doesn't help along with tummy massage and a warm bath then cooled boiled water can be given if baby will take it. This is advice from a qualified health professional. Luckily we didn't need to do any of this as our wee one pooped that evening.

I gave mine a small amount of apple juice watered down and it was a lifesaver. My little one had problems tolerating formula and even breast milk.

it’s not dangerous, it was recommended by our health visitor and you can also find it recommended on the nhs website for babies under 6 months.

Infacol works well and is suitable from birth. It’s for colic pains and trapped wind which then usually gets things moving, definitely worth a try!

cool boiled water is fine to make up formula. Not to be given on its own
