My 6 month old PANICS the second I put him in a car seat and screams, cries, chokes and recently even projectile vomited on a 14 minute drive. It’s gotten to the point I don’t even bring him out unless it’s to a doctors appointment. I’m a stay at home mom with no family in my state and it has been very isolating. We’ve tried 3 different car seats with no improvement. Has anyone had a baby who hated the car seat? Any advice? This started at 3 months. I will add it does seem worse when he’s tired. He does cry on every trip though. He only contact naps and co sleeps so he reaches for me and will not sleep in the car seat.

The only thing that helped us in the car was playing a song over and over and he recognized it as a soothing song after. Only thing that worked for us.

Same as above, it might also be that your little one is gets Car sick (motion sickness) so needs more soothing and something to distract him

What car seat do you have?

My daughter was this way too. It was. ROUGH! I hated driving far… Im normally a minimal screens moms. If giving the baby a show to watch for 15 mins keeps them calm, do it! so you can drive safely and help your mental wellbeing by being able to leave the house.
My daughter eventually outgrew the crying around 1. For long trips my husband or I would have to sit back there before then.

Is he still in the infant carrier? If so maybe changing to a more grown up car seat that will grow with him will help? I was the same and would avoid car journeys and my little girl was also awful in the car! But I changed her around 6 months and she's been sooooo much better! X

Mine did this and just like some mom's here stated, I would put on a song or a show he enjoys and that would soothe him, I know when you're driving, you probably wanna hear your music, but try putting something your baby likes and hope that does it :)

Maybe you can try a simulation. Take him out for stroller walks; the bumps and inclines of the pavement will give your baby a similar motion to driving. Gradually increase the time spent taking him into the car and putting him into the car seat for practice, maybe between 2 and 5 minutes. Comfort him with his favorite toy. If he gets better with his reactions, take a short ride to a local store. If that works, rinse and repeat.

Are you able to sit in the backseat with him on car rides? That's the only thing that helped us. And we played calming classical music as well
