Sickness

Does anyone have any tips for sickness please? I’ve suffered with Nausea since about 6 weeks, but this week have started being sick multiple times a day (11+4)
I’m currently on medication for it, wearing sickness bands and trying to eat bland food little and often… nothing seems to be helping or shifting this😢

Might need to change sickness tablets…changing to ondansetron saved my life

Avatar

I used sickness bands as I used them when I used to get car sick and they proper helped me. Then I did the usual of ginger biscuits and ginger ale to the point I'd keep them hidden behind the till at work to sneakily eat so I could make it through a shift. I found sucking on mints helped me too and for some reason orange and mango squash from Tesco helped me.

I’ll try this, I’m currently on prochlorperazine but not touching the sides. Thank you x

I haven’t tried ginger ale or the squash yet so I’ll defo give them a go, I’m willing to try anything at this point! X

Hey hun. What meds are you on? I was given cyclizine and that helped a bit. Are you keeping food and fluids down majority of the time?

Avatar

This is around the time it peaks so it tends to get worse before it gets better unfortunately. Ask for Cyclizine, chew mint gum and drink pink lucozade for the fizz and also to replace your electrolites to keep you hydrated.
Hang in there 💖

Lawd morning sickness is the worst 😭

Here's some things I've heard of but nothing helped me:

-Sucking on sour candy.
-have a snack like crackers next to your bed and eat some before getting up.
-pressure points
-eating small snacks throughout the day.

One that seems to be helpful for a lot of people is this combo of vitamin B and unisom. You could ask your doctor about that.

Avatar

Hey, I was on cyclizine for a while but the effects stopped working so I’m now on prochlorperazine. I do seem to be keeping food and fluids down, it’s clear like bile coming up and the constant sicky feeling x

Avatar

I did think this… just praying it subsides soon! I’ll give the pink lucozade a go. Thank you❤️

Avatar

it’s more like 24hr sickness😭
I’ve tried all of these, but not the vit B and unisom so I’ll be giving my doctor a call today! Thank you x

I relied on ice pops for the longest time. I had HG and i’m still sick throughout the day and i’m 38 weeks 😂 i find sitting with an ice pop just gets some sugar in me so i felt human

Avatar

I know it sucks right now but soon it should get better. I was super sick with both my sons, tried it all with the first. But once I got closer to second trimester it got better.
You can try taking Pepcid, my doc told me to do the 10mg. That helps the stomach acid which helped not be as sick. There’s another mix of meds too, vitamin B6 and unisom that is supposed to help. Just Google it, it should come up or try your doc for information about it.

Avatar

my god I feel for you😭 I’ll be getting some ice pops today, thank you x

Avatar

i hope it works for you🤞xx

Avatar

im hoping so🙏🏼 thank you, I’ll give my doctor a call today to discuss this x

I'm 22 weeks with my first baby, and have had Hyperemesis since about week 6. The sickness is awful.

I'm allergic to Cyclizine and Prochlorperazine didn't work for me either - so I'm now on Metaclopramide (antisickness) with Omeprazole (for acid) and the combination of those seems to be making the sickness more manageable. I've been on these 2 tablets since the end of the 11th week.

If the current medications aren't working for you, try call your GP again and ask for something different. They are cautious about giving Metaclopramide before 12 weeks as it can interfere with baby's development, but it's been shown to be safe after 12 weeks. I've had 12 week and 20 week scans and baby is healthy and happy.

I also found ice cold drinks, ice pops, citrus fruit juices and lucosade also helped on the days I felt worse - like others have said, it could be the bits of sugar giving a boost. X

Ondansetron(Zofran) was a life saver on both my pregnancies.
The ones that dissolve are better.

Avatar

I thought mine was bad, I feel for you!
I’ll be calling the doctor today about alternatives as it’s definitely ramped up.
I’ll give the ice pops and drinks a go too, thank you x

Avatar

thank you, I’ll mention this too x

Avatar

what medication are you on? I had horrible sickness but Cyclizine saved me so if you’re not on it already ask for that! x

Avatar

I was on cyclizine, but it randomly stopped working like it did when I first started taking it. I’m now on prochlorperazine x

Avatar

Ginger capsules and b6 vitamin supplements they literally only thing that helped me and using essential oils under my nose 1🤣

Avatar

Try anything ginger

Avatar

I second what has said, ondansetron was a life saver. I was admitted into hospital at 12 weeks due to hyperemesis gravidum and they prescribed me ondansetron. I still had some cyclizine left and found taking one ondansetron and on cyclizine kept the sickness and the nausea away! I came off meds all together at 20 weeks. Deffo speak to your doc about it! X

Avatar

Ginger preggy pops or hard candies helped me a lot.

Avatar

I promise you it gets better as time goes on the amount of times i use to write posts like this where ive been sick and havent kept nothing down it does get better you just gotta ride the tide xx

Avatar

I’ll give them a go thank you! I’ve been sniffing lemons and all sorts🤣 people must think I’m a right weirdo if they see me x

Avatar

I’ve got a call back from my doctor this afternoon, so hopefully they can help with that!
I really feel for you girls that have had HG.
Praying that it eases soon🙏🏼x

Avatar

this is music to my ears! Thank you🙏🏼🙏🏼x

I have severe HG and acid reflux…and had to try a few diff meds to figure out what works.. bc nothing else did. At one point on two. Definitely chat with your provider. There’s different options. It’s worth it to get some relief and make sure you and baby keeping good nutrition. I’m 26 wks tomorrow and still get sick from time to time. Hang in there and pray it gets better for ya

Avatar

Sorry to hear you’re suffering! I was bad for about 25 weeks so I completely understand what you’re going through. Nothing really touched the sides for me, but I would be in trouble if my stomach was empty. Things that helped me were flavourless toothpaste (mint was a major trigger!) and the relief band - a bit expensive but it provided huge relief in the depths of sickness

Small head reported following 20 week scan

Has anyone else had it flagged that their baby is in the bottom 5th percentile for head size?

They said everything was fine whilst we were in the scan and then I got a phone call the next day saying that it’s on the small side and we’re being referred to a paediatric specialist at St George’s. Has anyone else had this and how did things go??

Would you bring 9 week old to a family party of 35+ people?

These are also people who will want to pass the baby around and get a turn to hold him. He just got his 2 month shots two days ago

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?

Induction experience

I just wanted to share my experience with being induced as I wasn’t sure what to expect and thought it may help others.

I opted for the foley balloon which was inserted at 8am Saturday morning, I had to stay in hospital due to hypertension and protein urine however usually you can just go home once this has been done. The insertion of the balloon was not painful, was slightly uncomfortable as there was slight pressure. I actually found having the cervix checked prior to be worse (again not painful at this point just uncomfortable) The balloon had little effect and after having it removed I was still only 1cm. Removal also was pain free and hardly even noticeable.

I then had my first dose of the gel and definitely noticed a difference, I started experiencing period like cramps almost immediately however they were light and manageable. After 6 hours I had another cervix check and although my cervix was soft it was still only 1cm and was only open at the front. I had another dose of the gel and felt an increase in pressure and more intense cramping where I now required pain relief (codeine). After another 6 hours I had another cervix check and I had now dilated to 2-3cm however was still quite difficult to get all the way through so a third gel was recommended which I agreed to.

Almost immediately I noticed the difference and was in considerable pain, I had paracetamol and codeine however the contractions had now become intense and a lot closer together (around 3 minutes apart). After a couple of hours I had my last cervix check and was 4cm and taken down to the Labour ward to have my waters broken and an epidural.

I had been in my room for approx 20minutes when my waters broke by themselves and I was now 10cm and actively pushing…. There was no time for the epidural and my beautiful girl arrived into the world within 2 minutes of pushing.

All in all I would say the cramps/contractions were manageable up until the third gel where it became pretty unbearable however it was for a very short time a gas and air helped take the edge off. The worst part about any of it was actually the later cervix checks where after stimulating the cervix my contractions were at their most painful.

If I had to be induced again I would skip the balloon and opt for the gels immediately as thy had a quicker effect and I would have been out a lot sooner if I had done this to begin with.

One more thing, I’ve never believed when people say “you forget the pain once they’re here” but I can honestly say this is true. It’s been 4 days and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
