Preparing night feeds 🌙

Sorry it may be a long one (the main questions are at the bottom 🙈)- Please please help🫣🤣

Basically planned to BF, didn’t go as planned so formula feeding. Baby is 6 days old so for the past few nights we’ve been using ready made for simplicity but of course, the price! I have a tub of formula which throughout the day I’m making as per instructions on the box, boiling kettle, waiting 30 mins etc etc. but thought the night that’s just not ideal 🥴
I really don’t want the tommee tippee prep machine as it gives me anxiety about making sure it’s fully clean etc so that’s out the question 😣
I’ve looked at the Nuby Rapid Cool but found a few flaws when it comes to cleaning and sterilising and having to leave it for 3 hours to cool down etc.

So - questions 🫣🤣 -

1. With the Nuby Rapid Cool, could I use the grey flask to pour like an ounce of ‘hot shot’ of water into a sterilised bottle, add the formula then pour more hot water into the white bottle to cool it down in there then pour it into the hot shot and formula mixture? To save making the full bottle in the rapid cooler then having to go sterilise it?

2. Pre making bottles and storing them in the fridge and buying a bottle warmer - where do people stand on this? Of course NHS guidelines don’t recommend but surely it’s a thing plenty people do? I’ve just got so much anxiety around it as a first time mum when of course the tub says for bottles to be prepared fresh 🫣

Thank you so much if you got this far, your advice really would mean the world to one very very anxious mum! 🥰

I prep feeds in advanced and keep them in the fridge. They last up to 24hr in the fridge. My top tip is to store them in breast milk bags (make in bottle and transfer to bag) as they heat up in seconds in the bags. Perfect for late night feeds

The NHS website has information that states you can pre make bottles for 24 hours in the fridge and warm as needed that's what I did when my little one was on regular formula and needed night feeds (he's on prescription now and doesn't wake at night) and honestly I used to pop in the microwave for 15 seconds shake them and let them sit while I did a nappy change and there was no hot spots (my bottle warmed made hotspots so I saw no issue with the microwave also in the night I didn't have time to wait 3-4 mins for it to warm when baby was crying and hungry) xxx

I use the Nuby Rapid Cool for night times and it's amazing.

I fill a normal flask with boiling water and take that upstairs along with the Rapid Cool. I pour the full amount of Oz's of boiling water into the baby bottle (for example, my boy's on 6oz so I pour 6oz of boiling water directly into his bottle). I then pour 5oz of that water into the Rapid Cool, leaving 1oz in his bottle as the hot shot.

I then add the powder to the hot shot and then add the cooled water into that. That way I don't have to sterilise after every use. I also leave the lid off after using to help it cool down quicker for the next bottle

Thank you all for your helpful replies! It’s all so overwhelming 🫣🥰

I pre prep bottles always, day & night. Boiling water from the kettle, mix, shake and then refrigerate, when needed I just pop them in the microwave for a few seconds & we’re good to go. So far no issues. It’s what my mum did for me as a baby & working in the food industry, I’ve heated plenty of bottles for parents with babies the exact same way.

Sorry quick question to those that pre make, do you all just leave on the side to cool down before refrigerating or put bottle into cold water? 🙈 thanks for any replies 🥰

I used to put them in cold water to make it faster could cool them in about 10-20 mins that way xxx

When we were in the newborn phase, we did do the premake, refrigerate, and warm with a bottle warmer. We thought it being warm was better but turns out our little man is NOT picky. He just wants to eat 😅. It took way more time heating a pre-made bottle from the fridge than it took to just make the bottle. Instead I just pre-filled the bottles with water so all I had to do was add the formula and mix. That way it's "fresh" and it's already room temp.

Over supply of milk

I am nearly 5weeks postpartum and I have such a big over supply of BM.
Has anyone donated / sold their supply, if so where do you recommend for this?

AITA

In the uk there is an outbreak of meningitis, in a specific area mainly. My BD has family from that area and decided to go and meet up with them, I said if he does then he cannot have contact with the kids for 7-10 days after incase he picks anything up. Am I being over dramatic? I reallyyy don’t want my young kids getting anything serious

Baby clothes

Just out of curiosity, why do parents love zipper onesies?

Don’t get me wrong, I tried zipper ones it’s easy to zip in and out when putting it on the first time and taking it out, but I find it difficult when changing diapers especially when baby is asleep.

I prefer those kimono style buttons where it’s easy to button or too down button with crotch snaps.

Is everyone thinking the same or different? Lol

This might rattle some people

Ok, this might get a bit long, and a bit bumpy, so get comfy and buckle up.

So about a week or 2 ago, there was a post on here regarding sleepovers. Not letting their child go to them as you can't trust who'll be at the house etc.

Now, given recent incidents in nurseries and schools, plus my own experience back in the 90s, I am more concerned about sending my child to nursery and later school than I am to a friend's house for a sleep over.

The other day a man was jailed for abusing children at the nursery he worked at. A woman has been arrested for sleeping with an underage boy and then getting pregnant by a different underage boy while on bail for the first offence.

Young girls and boys get sexually harassed and bullied when at school, not all of them. But more than you think. And not just by other kids, but by adults who we as parents are trusting to look after our kids.

A sleepover, is a more controlled environment, with only a handful of people coming into contact with your child. A school, a club etc there can be 100s of people coming into contact with your child.

I was targeted at 7 years old by the owner of a prominent private school. Thankfully, I wasn't SA'd. In year 5 of primary school, I started to develop early, I was harassed by the boys and teachers made remarks about how my uniform didn't fit right, always "adjusting it" around my chest and legs.

Years 7-9 of secondary school were hell. But it was all under the guise of "we're just messing around". A teacher twanging my exposed bra strap (none uniform day) is not "messing around".

Boys pinning me down trying to rip open my shirt to see my breasts.

I fear for my daughter. I hope she takes after my father's family, flat chested.

We need to educate all our children, what is acceptable behaviour. And to come to us, as their parents should ANYTHING happen.

At this point I’m not enjoying motherhood

My 22 month old is horrendous at the moment🫣 biting, hitting, pushing, pulling and shoving not only adults but children he also wants what other children have and will just snatch it away from them.

We repeat ‘nice hands’ ‘be gentle’ ‘let’s share’ etc

But how do I make him understand what he’s doing isn’t very nice? At the end of the day I feel like I’ve just been saying his name all day and nothing else.

What can I do?
