In the uk there is an outbreak of meningitis, in a specific area mainly. My BD has family from that area and decided to go and meet up with them, I said if he does then he cannot have contact with the kids for 7-10 days after incase he picks anything up. Am I being over dramatic? I reallyyy don’t want my young kids getting anything serious

Are your kids vaccinated?

Not the way I would personally live my life and do find it a bit over the top but to each their own. From what I know meningitis doesn't spread the same way a cold does.

Nope not the asshole people are too lazy when it comes to Meningitis. It is serious and not a joke, I am not doing any softplays at all at least not until his 18 month jabs

If your kids are vaccinated they should be okay as they get the MenB vaccine - the young adults / teens who've been getting it during this outbreak aren't because it was only introduced 10 years ago. Also if the family your husband is meeting up with haven't been exposed then there's little risk x

YTA. I live in the outbreak area. And go to uni at one of the ones that has a confirmed case. It’s serious but it’s not *that* serious to keep a child from a parent for visiting.
It’s not airborne.

if that’s the case, are we as adults vulnerable because it was only introduced 10 years ago? Or are the elderly parents vulnerable?

Yes it’s a serious illness, but really quite difficult to ‘catch’. You have to have prolonged physical contact ie kissing. Probably why it originated in a nightclub 😂
