Solids at 5 months

My little one is 5 months this week and is weighing 5.95kg so just going onto 9th centile. The children's centre where I get her weighed has suggested that I start her on purees now to help with weight gain. Does anyone else have experience with solids at 5 months? Usually it's 6 so just worried what impact starting solids a month early could have? They seem to think that it's perfectly safe

If they’ve said it’s safe then I’d go with it 😊 my son started on purées around 4 months old because he was always hungry, he’s now 7 and still as hungry as he was back then! 🤣 my little lady is 4 months and I’m already thinking about getting ready for weaning! Good luck and enjoy it! Xx

What sorts of foods did you start with? Are you using pouches or homemade puree?

We started purées last week, my dietician advised veggie purées homemade is best so you know exactly what is in it! I bought the tommee tippee steam and blend machine which is so easy to use and convenient

The reason they say veggies first is because if you start on the lovely sweet fruits they may not want bitter greens etc.

So far we have done sweet potato, parsnip, peas, carrots, courgette, potato, butternut squash and spinach - I have a box of baby rice in case something turns out too watery as it’s quite handy to thicken out purées!

My little man is absolutely loving it, I let him dictate how much he wants (as per dietician guide) so he sometimes has a fair bit!

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰

Baby losing weight

Hi all, it's been a long time since I had a baby (my son is 15!). My daughter is 10 days old and was 9lb born, she has since lost weight at every appointment and is at a 12% loss. I am breast feeding every two hours for over an hour and topping her up every feed. I pump and can get 60ml in 10 minutes so I know my supply is okay. Anyone had this before? Can give me some tips? I currently feel like I'm letting my baby down.
