Inductions
Bit of a weird one but, I’m 38+3days, sadly my grandmother passed away on Friday just gone, her funeral has been arrange for Friday 1st December. Obviously I really want to attend her funeral, it’s a bit of a drive which is fine but if I haven’t given birth I’ll be 42 weeks by then.
Basically my question is do you think I could ask for an early induction so baby isn’t a week old or I’m not 42 weeks when it’s time? I don’t even know if they do things like that🥲 I’m in the UK if that makes a difference at all.

You should be able to speak to them and ask to be induced at 40 weeks, as you have a funeral, and don't wanna risk going into labour while you're there if nothing has happened before hand as it's a bit of a drive speak to your midwife I don't see why not as your classed as full term and it give you 2 weeks to recover
I appreciate your comment, but that’s not actually true, my friend was induced because baby refused to come out
I was induced due to my girl being to big so they didn't want me going past 40 weeks, it's worth an ask you never know unless you ask:)
They may be okay with it as you're past 38 weeks. I know you can book a C-section around 38w in the UK so I don't see why they wouldn't induce you. Their lungs etc are formed.
They didn't want to do sweeps with me until 40 weeks and she was suspected IUGR, which are usually induced early to be safe. Born SGA at 42 weeks 🙄
thank you, I really want to avoid a c section unless absolutely necessary, but I get what you’re saying, they do let you book in your section from 38 weeks so not sure why it should be any different. I have emailed the midwife team and requested an appointment or even just telephone appointment this week to discuss
Normally sections are from 39 weeks not 38 unless there is an indication for it to be sooner like a small baby, placenta praevia or diabetes.
You absolutely should ask. Most places offer induction at 41 weeks anyway. It's unlikely that anyone will book one for you before 39 weeks but you can ask for membrane sweeps from 38 weeks to try and help things along before then.

so women that get to 43+ weeks pregnant? With no signs of their babies coming anytime soon? They are just supposed to wait? No because it’s unsafe, so an induction would be offered. Inductions don’t only work if baby is ready.
it’s unsafe because it increases the risk of baby being stillborn. Anyway, as I said thank you for your comment. I just wanted some advice, not looking to argue about whether or not an induction would even work.
