I’ve had a lot of liquid discharge and I was concerned I am leaking amniotic fluid. I saw a nurse at the hospital last week, she performed a vaginal exam and concluded nothing would indicate that. I took a urine test and just now the results came in as ‘mixed bacterial flora (>=3 colony types) - consistent with skin and / or general contamination’. I keep leaking loads of fluid, my underwear gets wet pretty fast. It’s completely clear and it has a faint smell of ammonia - does anyone know what it could be? Still worried about leaking amniotic fluid and they said they’d need to send me to triage to do more tests if that was the concern.

Could it be pee? Maybe you’re leaking pee.

As someone who ran PCR urine tests for years in a Urology office that test is definitely negative for a UTI (but if it's a regular culture in order for it to be accurate it woild have had to have been a good clean catch sample). Also it's my understanding it's super rare for someone to leak amniotic fluid and that fluid is odorless. BUT...speaking from personal experience with my own daughter, I had a lot of swelling going on with lots of fluid build up, especially at that point in pregnancy and, as embarrassing as it is , I did have some incontinence issues going on because of her position and the pressure on my bladder . But if you're having other symptoms like burning or pain I definitely would keep pressing them because you might have something else going on.

Thank you . I did more research and concluded the same, that the urine sample was contaminated so probably need to redo it. There’s a high chance I’m leaking pee - but one thing that confuses me online is the fact that some say ammonia smell indicates urine while others say it indicates amniotic fluid. So not sure where to go from here!

I don’t have other symptoms other than peeing frequently and sometimes weird pain here and there but hard to distinguish it from normal pelvic pain…

Pregnancy is seriously the most confusing thing! I totally understand with the symptoms and trying to distinguish them from what's normal- even with my science background, I had my OB on speed dial, calling her at least once a week about literally everything under the sun. If you're still worried, I would still reach out to your Dr just to make sure or at the very least put your mind at ease. Believe me, I'm fairly certain I still hold the record for how many phone calls in a day/week, so don't be embarrassed, lol 😅
