We’re you named after a popular idea, dead person or big family cornerstone?

Sounds like you have a lot of hesitation about this. Using his name as a middle name might be more appropriate since you want him to have his own name

My grandads name is my sons middle name. He was my favourite person and I'm not asking my son to fill his shoes, it's just my way of honouring him. :)

I’d use it as the middle name so he can have a unique first name

All my children have family middle names and their own unique first name. If you didn’t want to use a middle name you could use a variation of his name or take inspiration from his hobbies or things he likes

My name is unique, though I am named after my mother. She moved one letter, I am the only one, seemingly in the world, and I love it. Names are prayers, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
