So….
I had a sweep Thursday 9th, was 1cm stretched to 2cm. Started having some cramps that evening.
Friday I stayed active as I could and really slowly started losing my plug over the next few days and having slightly worse period type cramps off and on.
Saturday went on lots of big walks to get moving, and started having worse contractions that evening.
Sunday the contractions started to kick in a lot stronger and more regular but would reduce every now and then as soon as I thought I was ready.
Early hours Monday I went into MAU at 4am after having no sleep due to contractions coming every 4 & 5 mins- had reduced movements, had another sweep and was 4cm dilated. His heart rate was slightly lower than usual but they didn’t seem too concerned as he was moving around still, re examined at 10am and sent home with coedine as was still only 4cm dilated. Told to come back when they’re 1-2 mins apart or if the pain becomes unbearable again.
Went home had a bath, food and my app said I was in established labour at 2pm. Managed at home til 7pm, got to MAU at 8pm with contractions 3 minutes apart. Monitored and his heart rate was more normal but my TOCO reading was in the 80’s and was having regular contractions. Re-examined and was 6cm dilated at 8.30!
Given gas and air in examination room and was taken down to delivery suite.
Tuesday, at midnight I was fully dilated and ready to go. First stage labour was about 4hrs, second stage was 2hrs and 3rd 9 mins!! I lost 500ml of blood but was feeling pretty good despite the shock of everything & how overwhelming it all was. Did it all with just gas and air and nearly breaking my partners poor hand off.
It was just an amazing, overwhelming, beautiful experience to share with my mum & my partner. My midwife’s were so so lovely I couldn’t have wished for a better little team.
Baby boy was born at 2.02am delivered straight on my chest and my partner cut the cord at 2.07am.
Had some internal minor tearing but nothing major. He latched pretty much straight away and I was taken to ward to recover. Just waiting to go home with my little family now 🥹🩵
