Im 38+1 today, baby is fully engaged and has been for over a week but that doesn't mean he'll come anytime soon. I just want to make myself prepared for if I go overdue. Can anyone give me advice or any information on sweeps, im completely clueless and unsure if it's something to even consider, or would considering an induction over 41 weeks would be better? Thanks for any help.

I had my first sweep last week at 39 weeks. I found it to be quite uncomfortable but it doesn’t last long at all. Midwife told me I was 1cm dilated, cervix was soft but still long. I had period like pains for a couple of days after. I’m hoping to have another sweep this afternoon at my 40 week appointment. My baby has had her head engaged for a few weeks now. Hope that helps 😊

You can have a few sweeps prior to induction if your cervix allows. I had my first one yesterday at 40 + 3, I won't lie it was very uncomfortable, but managed a longer sweep using my breathing techniques. I found it beneficial to hear how favourable my cervix was, e.g. dilation, soft bulging waters etc. I feel this has helped my mind relax a bit whereas I was a bit anxious worrying about potential inductions other interventions etc. But I know others may prefer not to know.
I have heard a lot of people say that a sweep will only be successful if you baby/body is almost ready anyway, and it's just to help move things along.
Try remember term is considered 37 - 42 weeks, and unless medically required you can make the decision as to what you feel is right for you and your baby 🥰
Well I had a routine midwife appointment today and I had high blood pressure again so had to come in to hospital. They offered me a stretch and sweep so I took it, currently 1cm dialated so fingers crossed! 😊
