NIPT was wrong about the gender!

NIPT testing indicated that we were having a boy. At my 20 week scan they couldn’t get the baby to uncross their legs so we had an unconfirmed gender. Booked a private scan 3 days later and confirmed that we are having a baby girl!

I had two gestational sacs at my first sono appointment and was told one was empty but that they couldn’t confirm or deny whether I ever had a baby in there. We think we had a vanishing twin which caused the blood work to reflect the male result.

We are both still happy as long as we have a healthy baby but I wanted to share in case anyone else had a second gestational sac!

Had my 20 week ultrasound today but we couldn’t see the gender, baby didn’t want to open the legs.

Wow our scenarios are so similar! Our first ultra sound we had 2 sacs and 2 heartbeats confirming a twin pregnancy. Second ultrasound sac was empty and it was ruled as a vanishing twin. We got our NIPT also resulting in a BOY. At this point we are so excited to welcome our son, however our 20 week is coming soon and I only hope everything is spot on!

So yes I did have a second sac from the beginning, and the baby vanished. 😔

Sometimes I wish it were all wrong!
But are excited for our singleton who is healthy❤️.

Congratulations to you as well. 🙂

That’s interesting considering that if the blood test detected an XY, then there most certainly was a male fetus. I’ve seen people have the opposite where, the NIPT said one gender and ultrasound said another, with the ultrasound being wrong. Hope everything goes well for you and baby.
