My LO has been rolling over since 18 weeks (now 23 weeks) and can roll both ways so I was feeling reassured that he could 'save himself' if he ever rolls over during sleep etc. However, he's down for a nap now and I was in the nursery tidying his clothes and kept hearing him fussing, checked on him a few times and he was doing that little cry and fuss while he is settling himself to go to sleep. I go back to tidying and hear him start crying again, assuming its more fussing i finished my pile and then went to check on him and he was face down on his belly waving his arms, crying and struggling up against the bars of the cot. I am now TERRIFIED incase he does this at night when we're all asleep. I read so many things that say baby is fine to roll during sleep if he gets there himself, but now I'm wondering if this is actually true. Does anyone have any advice on what i can do to make sleep as safe as possible? He sleeps in a sleep bag, in a next to me with nothing in the cot.

Mine has started to sleep like this over the last week too! I was very on edge at first as he can’t roll tummy to back but he’s been fine and sleeps better!
You could try put a towel or blanket on side of him under his sheet to stop him rolling which is what I did at the start but gave up in the end as he just prefers it! X
@Rebecca I'll try that, thank you! Good to know it was ok as I have the fear 😱

My son rolled onto his front for weeks before he learnt to roll back. He would cry every time and I'd have to get up and roll him over. He will let you know if he needs help in the night by crying / whimpering again. If he can roll over himself he is strong enough to turn his head to stop himself suffocating so try not to worry.
I would worry about putting a towel or blanket under his sheet because its an increased risk of suffocation. But if you're OK with that risk then it may well help prevent him from rolling x
@Hannah thank you 💛 you're right that he does cry and wake me so i guess thats a blessing. I'm such a worry wart. The rolled towel thing i don't feel comfortable with either as it feels like swapping one risk for another xx

I swear a mom's job is pretty much to worry about everything 😂 we all do it. I would have worried more when he rolled over in the night but we have an owlet sock which takes some of my anxiety away. I hope he learns to roll onto his back soon! Xx
