I just found out I’m pregnant. Can I start strength training and lose weight ( tone up) my first trimester to balance all the weight I’m going to gain? My first doctor appointment is next week, I’ll be asking my doctor as well.
Just wondering if any of you have experience with starting your fitness journey while pregnant?

If you have never had a fitness routine the worst time to start is when your pregnant

You can always strength train! But make sure you do so to your ability levels and bodies signals! Best of luck!

I wouldn’t say never, just not consistent. What makes it the “worst” time?

I disagree with Heather, now is still a good time to start! Strength training will help your body handle the demands of pregnancy and parenthood! It has numerous other great effects as well .. I’m a certified pre/postnatal personal trainer with over 9 years of experience. Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat more about the dos and don’ts 🤗

oh I understand. Just be safe. And don’t try to lose weight while pregnant. You can always focus on healthy eating and walking while pregnant. Eat enough protein and fruits and veggies and you’ll feel great during pregnancy

Thank you. That’s kind of what I thought. I’m sure I’m not the 1st woman that decided “it’s never too late to get healthy”

Thank you! Will do.

You can definitely work out and get stronger and healthier but I wouldn’t make the goal to me lose weight. I lost weight in the first trimester which I was very glad about but it was on accident. If you are purposely doing stuff I think it’s totally fine to work out burn fat eat healthy. But don’t really worry about what the scale says. Just focus on how you feel

Doctors will always say this is not the time to start a diet or to start your fitness journey. HOWEVER, light exercise is great. I trained for a half marathon with my second pregnancy, not knowing I was pregnant. I wasn’t a consistent runner, but I had been doing runs before. Just listen to your body. If you start to feel pain, then slow down, less weight, etc.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I worked out all through my pregnancy and it helped me a lot during birth and postpartum! I would focus on listening to your body, any movement is good movement. And be intentional with the foods you eat. The goal shouldn’t be to lose weight but to properly move and fuel your body! Congrats on your pregnancy ☺️

Makes sense! Thank you, I appreciate your advice! ☺️ And thanks for the congrats, we’ve been trying since May! 🥰

currently in my first tri and strength training 3x a week and walking 10k steps everyday. i started trying to lose weight for a month til i found out i was pregnant. now i take it a little easier and dont focus on the calories but i do the same workouts. doc cleared it, just said dont overdo it!

awesome! Congrats! Thanks for sharing!

I worked out the entire first 7 months of my last pregnancy.
After I had my first via c section they told me I’d probably never be able to have a natural birth due to having a weak pelvis/cervix issues.
So I was determined and made it my goal to be as strong as possible giving birth to my second.
Long story short I had a successful VBAC & I owe it all to strength training throughout my pregnancy.
Just listen to your body & DO NOT over do it! 💛

I also lost 10-12 pounds during both of my first trimesters. Just make sure you’re drinking lots of water, taking your vitamins and eating lots of fruits and veggies if you can! 💛

That’s great to hear!!! Good for you!!! Thanks for sharing!!

I say go light, you want to ease into it especially if you haven’t been strength training till now. You can also start running but don’t run to fast where you can’t keep a conversation while doing it. Wanna keep your heartbeat at 130 bpm for 30 mins don’t exceed that! Take it easy and stay hydrated!!!

My dr told me it was totally fine to workout while preganet just don't over do it

Weightlifting is always good 👍 not sure if you're experiencing morning sickness, but that made me lose weight "naturally"
