Our girl has a suspected dairy allergy and the health visitor has prescribed us nutramigen formula to try out to see if it helps her bowel and gas problems.
Anyway, I think the formula absolutely stinks lol and I can't get the smell out of the bottles no matter how much I scrub or sterilise them! Anyone else noticed the same or am I doing something wrong? 😅

We just been Prescribed it too and yes got the same problem! We use ma’am bottle so have tried to cold water sterile them and then in the microwave but there’s still a smell!

Can I ask what your baby’s symptoms were and how’s she’s getting on on the new milk please? I think my girl may have a milk allergy but I’m not too sure. She’s normally ok but today she’s vomited up every feed she’s had and she’s crying after a bottle, sick and then she calms down a bit but is still quite whingey and also struggles with her gas and bowels. She doesn’t have any rash or anything though x

I am having the same problem!
In the steriliser, in the microwave and cold sterilisation the smell just does not go! It’s awful 🤢 x

@Tori she has very bad gas, stomach cramps, we could hear her stomach bubbling after a feed, she was pooping sometimes up to 10 times a day with runny muscusy poo. She had bad nappy rash too, but she didn't vomit or anything.
She just had her first bottle so I'm not sure how she will react yet, she drank it well though. X

We are having the exact same problem! Hope your little one reacts well to it xx

@Lisa @Shannon @Lois I'm glad it's not just me then! I can't stand the smell, it makes me gag lol I don't know how she drank it!
Have you noticed it helped your babies at all? We are just trying it for first time this evening so curious x

yeah she has the gas and we can also hear her tummy bubbling after a feed but she doesn’t poop a lot, she does 1 every 1-2 days but it’s always dark green and runny. Second time mom and i just worry about everything 😔 going to speak to go tomorrow but just thought I’d ask about your experience to see if it was similar! I hope it helps your little one 🩷 x

We had that but our LB refused to feed from it. He was gagging on it and went 24hrs feeding about 3 oz so I had to call the GP for a different one to be told to suck it up and keep going with it, another 24hrs of only 3 oz and being incredibly sleepy and not right I ended up ringing thr GP again and making a formal complaint. We're not on something different, thank god!

thank you, I hope you can get some answers too! X

we only been on it for 2feeds! And first bottle she was fussy with it but the last bottle she drank with no fuss! And no spew after bottle and not screaming after feeds! So it looks like it’s helping! Getting on much better with it than we were with neocate!

@Jordan oh sorry to hear that! I'm glad you got it sorted though! Hope this new one is helping your little one x

Yes it absolutely reeks😂, my little one has been on it for a week now and we are dis in used to the smell😂, even her trumps/burps and poo smells like it😂

I made the bottles up and popped them in the fridge for the night feeds but i made them with boiling water like I would normal formula, but I've just read that the boiled water needs to be room temperature before mixing it? 🙈 should I tip them away and remake them or how do you guys do it?

did the sick improve? My daughter had like watery with milk bits in her sick and doesn’t seem to be ever ending

@Emily unfortunately not 🤦🏼♀️ he's still really poorly even on the new one so we're going back to the GP tomorrow xx

Her dick seems to be worse if I’m honest😂

Sick😂😂

we pour all out bottles and they stay there for the day leave them to cool on the side and add the formula as we go/need xx

@Jordan oh I'm so sorry to hear that 😔 hope it gets resolved x

@Jasmin thank you, I'll do that from now on! I didn't read the box before making the bottles and just made them like normal formula 🙈

Yea it stinks and it’s super bitter if you try it. But my first baby didn’t seem to mind. I couldn’t understand how he was drinking that 🤮

@Liza I don't think I could bring myself to try it 😅 the smell alone is disgusting! My girl doesn't seem to have any issues drinking it too 🙈

you know make the bottles! Is. It feeding it then cold to!

@Emily yes it has! My little girl was having blood in her poos which was terrifying but that has gone now luckily. She is suffering from reflux which I'm not sure if the milk should help that too or whether that's a different problem altogether. Hope you see and improvement 🤞 x

Yeah she has hers cold, I exclusively pumped to start with and she used to have my breast milk straight out the fridge, If we try warm her bottles up now she won’t have them xx

yeah I was told there’s a probiotic in the formula that is killed on contact with heat, which is why you have to make them with room temp cooled boiled water, i was confused at first with obviously following nhs guidelines but it does say on the website to do it that way and as the formula isn’t sterile not to give it to premmies or baby’s with health conditions x

Thank you so much ladies, Ava had a really good night without gas and cramps, she slept 4 and half hours 😱 I couldn't believe it 😅 she then had a bottle and pooed, it had no muscus and seemed more mushy than runny.. then she went back to sleep for 4 hours 🤞🤞🤞 seems like its helping alot! The most sleep I've had since she's been born 😅 I feel like a new woman

It absolutely stinks you’re right! However it’s really helped my girls symptoms, she had a rash over her body when she was on Aptamil and it’s gone and her poo was watery and diarrhoea like she was weeing out her bum but now it’s pretty much solid (as solid as you can get on an all liquid diet)🤣 and instead of being constipated she goes at least once a day or every other day which is brilliant!
She was skeptical of the change at first but now loves the bottles x
