Hiya 👋 my son is having his first jabs tomorrow morning and I am stressing so much about this ... has anyone's child got ill after the jabs? Do I do calpol before and after or just after? How upset and irritable are babies after it? All help and advice will be great xo

You will be fine mama, I remember stressing about this as well. We used calpol after and LO was fine.

We have Lo Calpol before. She had them this morning. Seems more unsettled than usual but giving her Calpol to hopefully help with the pain xx

You'll be grand, give your little one calpol after and then again after 4 hrs I did that with my little girl and she was all good wasn't sick but she wanted plenty of cuddles xx
If they are giving an oral one too just make sure you don't feed them right before you go in, I did that and she got sick when getting the oral dose.

@Helen oh OK thank you for letting me know! His appt is at 9.35 and I usually feed at 8 or so but may feed about half 7 then in that case just to be safe. Xxxxx

@Hannah how long before did you give calpol? His appt is at 9.35. Xxx

thank you lovely xx

I was petrified taking my girl but she was absolutely fine! A quick shriek but nothing a cuddle didn’t sort out and it’s all over very quickly
I have heard you’re supposed to wait till after to give calpol incase there’s any reaction but I’m not sure how true it is. I gave it to her once we got back in the car. She had a temp after the jabs so kept giving it, didn’t bath her that night due to the temp and needed extra nappy changes but it was a lot easier than expected honestly it’ll be over before you know it

LO had his Friday, we was advised to give 1 dose of calpol immediately after, then in 4-6 hours another dose, he cried a little having the jabs but then I walked him in pram for an hour and he just slept.. I will say when he woke up, an hour before we could give another dose of Calpol he was rather upset and seemed a little in pain, but lots of cuddles and distraction with giving him a bottle until he could have another dose, had that and was fine and napped again. Woke up more through night and seemed a little more irritable, but nothing major and was back to his normal smiley self come Saturday night. it's completely normal to get a fever after jabs (which is why they say to give Calpol which should bring it down again) so we put LO in a 1.5 tog sleep bag instead of a 2.5 to sleep in and didnt put too many layers on through the day. If he has a fever, don't bath him/sponge him down, feed him as normal and he should be fine :) x

Give your baby boob or bottle immediately after they get their shots, it helps soothe them

Hi .. my daughter had her first jab last week and she did not get a fever, she was just fussy.. so alot of hugs and breast comfort was given. We checked her temperature every day after the jab and she went up to 36.9 but never over to a low fever stage which I think is 37.9 and upwards.
I wouldn't recommend giving your baby Calpol until there are actual signs of a fever but your nurse will go over all this with you before doing the jab.
My personal opinion is not to give your baby medicine for no reason in the hope they are protected. X

She would be fine. No need for calpol for this vacc. The 16 - 18 wks jab yes.

You will be fine! Calpol just after, in the doctors normally. My little one was absolutely fine. More tired than normal but nothing major! You got this! X

Wow thank you all so much! I think it's because my baby is so content I am worried about seeing him distressed and upset and then restless and upset after for a few days. He's always happy and sleeps for 8hrs a night (rare but I consider myself very lucky!) So I guess I am worried about how upset he might get. I will take all the advice given on board from everyone xxx

The nurse giving the jabs suggested I give my baby calpol just before which I did (although you don’t have to) she did end up with a fever and became extra fussy and clingy for a day but then went back to her usual self x

My little one didn’t get a fever. The nurse let me breastfeed her whilst getting them done. It was heartbreaking watching her get them but breastfeeding her helped me soother immediately and I actually think giving her Calpol was more stressful for her. We gave Calpol immediately after and then a further 2 doses (2.5ml) 6hrs later and apart. She was more sleepy so we let her rest and we have her lots of cuddles. She was her normal self otherwise. Hope all goes well tomorrow.

My LO is now almost 4 months old, his first shots just made him really sleepy after he had them done. Just give lots of cuddles and love because he won’t be happy after it’s done. Just make him feel loved after, tell him it’s okay.

I gave Calpol an hour before then three doses so far every 5/6 hours will be giving her Calpol today too x

8 week jabs she was fine after initial shock, 12 week ones she was awful for days! Has 16 week ones this week so fingers crossed x

Thank you all so much. He's had them done now and fast asleep on me after a dose of calpol. 💖
