Sleep

I’ve been trying to follow the blissful baby expert plan for 4 month olds albeit my baby won’t do the 3 hour nap in the middle of the day, I have been waking him when we go to bed with the lights on fully/change nappy etc and feed him with the hope he will sleep through, he goes to bed around 8pm. It worked for a bit but the last couple of weeks he has been awake from 5am, then 4am and last night 3am! Won’t settle unless in bed with me - has anyone tried this routine? Could this be the sleep regression?!

At nighttime you want to do everything to not turn any bright lights on.

I use this in the night, as to not disturb baby

Avatar

He goes back to sleep fine after the feed then it’s dark and when he wakes from 3 I don’t turn a light on, unless the feed is disturbing him too much 😭

Avatar

We follow the same plan, have done since our lg was about 5wks. She’s 17wks now and I can’t get the long nap over lunch either. She tends to have her long nap around 3:30 till 5. But same as you last couple of weeks she’s been waking more in the night, doesn’t want feeding she has her dummy then settles but wakes about an hour later. My partner ends up putting her in the bed with him at first I was moaning at him for it but I’ve give up now and just let him do it and hope she goes back to sleeping again

Avatar

Sounds very similar to me! He managed a longer nap today but was 14.30 till 16.15! Not sure what is going on 😭 x

Avatar

could have wrote this myself! we just paid for lisa’s silver membership, bought her book and follow her routine for my 4 month old. It worked initially and he was sleeping 11 - 8 with a stir at 4 but then it went to 5, then 4 and then 3:30 last night. However, I haven’t been completely consistent with routine so going to give it one last solid bash, if not, i just have to face the fact i will no longer sleep 😂

Avatar

just to say aswell he gets so fussy when he wakes up so we give him the dummy but even that doesn’t work and he sleeps on us until the morning

Avatar

Were just settling down after the 11pm feed, our lg is so good at going back to sleep now but I feel I spend most of the night putting her dummy in as she’s stirring, never awake though. Let’s see what tonight brings x

Avatar

Wow literally exactly the same!! Last night was the same story at 4am 😭 find it really hard to stick to the exact naps in the day when I need to pop out and do things!
He was up from 4am today dummy wouldn’t work until he was back in bed with me :(

Avatar

I think I was up from about 2ish putting the dummy in and holding her hands, my partner give up at 5 and she ended up in our bed. I’m trying to get her naps sorted today as we are staying in so she’s down for her second nap now so 🤞🏻x

Avatar

i spoke to lisa about having these problems and she’s advised i stay in the house for a week and sort his routine out and then brave classes/appointments etc once this is sorted. So hard because going out really improves my mental health but I can’t function on the sleep my wee one is doing at the moment. He was up at 4:30 and me and my partner took it in shifts to put the dummy back in until the morning ☹️

Avatar

it’s difficult staying in, I have to go out for the school run so she always falls asleep on the way to school in the morning so I don’t get to put her down awake, luckily she transfers from the car to the crib without waking but it means she doesn’t quite make it to 10am before she’s awake then is a killer couple of hours till her next nap haha. She’s gone down at 11:30 today so 15mins early, again bit in the crib as she fell asleep in my arms while I was trying to keep her awake 🤦‍♀️. I’ve just been up to give her the dummy and she’s settled back but if I didn’t give her the dummy she would of just carried on crying - not sure how to stop the cycle of the dummy now 🤷‍♀️

Avatar

I also find it difficult staying in especially for my mental health! I have a dog too so tend to do morning and afternoon walks where baby sleeps in the pram. I also had a class today that started at 1pm which I think by her plan he should still be asleep but he’s wide awake after 30 min naps! Xx

Avatar

please keep us updated if you do this and if it works 🥰xx

Avatar

100% agree with both of you, im going to give it a bash for the full week after my birthday at the weekend and i will keep you guys posted. We’ve stayed in today to 100% stick to the plan so I will let you guys know how his sleep goes tonight!

Avatar

Yes please keep us posted. We’ve stayed in today too and she actually slept from 11:30 to 13:50, she did wake up about 12:30 so had to give her the dummy x

Avatar

My baby awake from 3.30 again 😂 tried to settle till 5 and gave up and got him in my bed, it’s so exhausting! Xx

Avatar

My partner done last nights shift after my meltdown yesterday morning haha… she woke up about ten to 4 and would settle, tried dummy white noise Ewan would only last a couple of minutes. She wasn’t even awake really as her eyes stay closed. He ended up turning her onto her side and she stopped instantly and slept till 7am. We think she might be getting frustrated not being to move as she can’t rollover yet. So we are going to try that tonight and see if it was a one off or if we have cracked it 🙏

Avatar

my baby was up every 2 hours for his dummy😵‍💫 we did put him down without it after his 11pm feed but he woke up really upset at 2am so we gave him it! it’s so frustrating, I followed his routine to a T yesterday and it made no difference 🙃

Avatar

It’s so hard isn’t it! 2 hours is a lot especially when you stuck to the routine too 😩
My baby can’t roll yet, wonder if it will get better when they can move in the night that’s interesting! Xx

Avatar

im going to try again today and see if tonight is any better. I think my wee man was possibly having a hard day teething yesterday, his cheeks were so red and he was very grumpy so i’m hoping this explains last nights fiasco lol😂 i will let you guys know how we get on again tomorrow, if you can, it would be good to hear how you guys get on too again!

Avatar

Definitely need to pass tips back and forth. We’re on track again today, she went down at 9 for her nap and she’s just woke up now x

Avatar

Will keep you updated not sure how to change myself to my name on this post as I posted incognito 😂
We had 16 week vaccines this morning so I’m not expecting a great routine today / tonight depending how he is xx

Avatar

Changed to my name so we can keep each other updated 🥰

Avatar

My baby slept a lot better but still woke at 5.30 but I could deal with that after the last few nights 😂 xx

Avatar

so did mines! he needed a cuddle between 4 & 4:30 but slept till 7am… how strange they both had better nights 😂

Avatar

We didn’t have a good night. Although she went to sleep perfectly, still awake and difted off by herself, she was up nearly every hour and by 5am my partner had give in and put her in bed. He was adamant to do the night shift even though he’s up at 6:30 and he was up rocking her when the alarm went off. How he does it I don’t know. Again we bang on track today for naps, she’s just went down for her second nap. I’m just not sure what else we can do other than persevere x

Avatar

oh god that’s rubbish, i feel for you, those nights are extremely tough🙁 i think we’re the same, every night is different despite being on plan for naps these days, i just hope one day it stays consistent… for even a week at least 🤣

Avatar

we should make some sort of groupchat to keep each other updated/share tips

Avatar

I’m good with a group chat. Would save me chewing my partners ears off with sleep routine and bad sleep associations and wake windows 😂🤦‍♀️

Avatar

i’ve made a invite only group on my page but it says i can only invite connections you’ve made on the app? im not sure if you guys can request to join it on your end? x

Avatar

Happy with a group chat too! Not sure I can see the page but just tried to connect with you xx

Avatar

Just wondered how you guys are getting on - my baby girl was born 18th Oct and we have been following blissful baby since birth but think we are entering sleep regression 🙈

Avatar

I don’t think we have had sleep regression, I mean she starts to stir and fidget from about 4amish and we had a few nights where it was from 2amish so we have to keep moving her onto her side as she still isn’t rolling herself and we put the dummy in. We just struggle with the long lunch time nap, she will only have about an hour and then she’s tired again sooner so messes up her 4-5pm nap which has been skipped a few times and is a nightmare till bedtime. Other than that I’ve started to just go with the flow a bit more so I’m not as strict with her bottles as she wasn’t hungry at the scheduled times. But all in all most days are good the odd day is stressful.

How about you? X

Avatar

I’ve stopped following this routine and going with my baby’s queues now, same bedtime of 7.30 each night, feeding every 3 hours in the day. Last night he slept from 7.30 until 3.15 quick feed and he was straight back to sleep until 7.30! He sometimes sleeps till 5.30.
Felt bad having to wake him at 10.30 for a feed which he hardly took any of! Things have got better and his sleep has got a lot better since changing, when I woke him for the late feed some nights he would be awake from 3 and not settle / have to get in bed with me! I’m hoping he will just naturally drop the night feed now as he gets bigger x

Avatar

I’m starting to hate the 11pm feed, we always fall asleep on the couch and feel groggy go up. Weirdly she’s started taking more of that feed than she usually did and she’s not taking as much on her day bottles. I’m scared to drop it now just in case haha but we do keep having that conversation. I didn’t have a routine with my older boys and they turned out ok and I didn’t seem as stressed x

Avatar

I know we were the same have been in bed by 9.30 since we stopped it 😂 I’m getting better quality sleep too as going into a deeper sleep until he wakes up!
It was a tough few days at first when we did drop it as we disturbed his routine but now I think it has helped us for the better just got to hope he naturally drops the night feed now 🙏🏻🙏🏻
He has also been terrible with day feeds though as well this week on some he took 3oz and just fights it 🤦🏼‍♀️ xx

Avatar

We’re having the same issue, she’s only having 3/4oz when she usually has 7oz. I’ve started to wait until she cries for her bottle now rather than the routine time to see if that helps but it’s not made any difference really. I’m taking her to be weighed today as long as she’s gaining weight I’ll be happy x

Avatar

Yeah I ended up skipping a feed completely yesterday as he only took an ounce so gave up! Do you think it could be teething? Xx

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Rant/WWYD

My sister (youngest, 24) has two kids, 4 & 1, and i (oldest, 30) just have my one who’s 6mo old right now, so i ask her for advice or call her to vent about things sometimes. Well im tired of her turning around and telling my other family members that I’m “losing my sh*t.” Literally have not lost my sh*t nor have i ever freaked out to her about my baby, i just call her to talk and tell her what stage my baby is in or talk through how im feeling, but she chooses to tell people that im like a complete nutcase or something which worries me that my family is going to start being judgmental about me as a mother or looking at me funny like I’m some fragile ticking time bomb.

What would you do in this situation? I’m already pretty much decided that I’ll stop telling her anything about my struggles, but I’m almost at the point where i feel like it should be confronted because she, of all people, should understand what I’m going through.

Not drinking

I’m going crazy. Baby born at 2.26kg. Slow to put on weight. This last week hasn’t put on any. Been trying to feed him at night and he’s not interested at all. Fast asleep. During day he will have 5 minute gulps and that’s it. He don’t cry for milk. I’ve got to keep offering to him. I try to offer it every hour but I don’t know what I’m doing. HV said nutrition comes after 5 minutes so I should pump first and then give him. I find it so hard. I tried to pump one boob nothing came. The other abit came. Tried giving him express he’s not interested in that too. Sometimes he will go for a longer a feed but not long at all. He’s 4 months and is currently 5.46kg. I have no family or friend support here and wish I had a cook, cleaner and nanny to help with everything so I can concentrate on the little one. I don’t know what’s wrong with him but I’m loosing it. It doesn’t help that my also stressed generally about my relationship and life circumstances. Any advice that will work. Any comfort you can give. I’m fed up. Is this regression - not feeding. He’s fast fast asleep. I’ve been trying to push the nipple in but that mouth is closed shut. I took some clothes off. Changed his nappy but he’s still asleep. Please help

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too
