Hi everyone! 👋🏼 I’m pregnant with my first baby and i’ve self registered for all of my midwife appointments to take place at Darent Valley hospital and was keen to find out people’s experience. and whether i’d be maybe better off registering with Orpington hospital or Beckenham..
Thank you! 👶🏼🤍

My experience with this hospital is good, but not all your appointments will be there, my first appointment was in Erith, my scans in Sidcup and I have not seen my first midwife again, I mean they are a team so don't expect to see much of them (the same person always). They work well and they follow up with your book but it is so that you are prepared. I guess all hospitals are like that.

Hi Louise, overall I enjoyed my experience at DV hospital. My actual birth (elective C section) was perfect and the care I got was fab. I suffered with an allergic reaction to antibitics and kidney stones during my pregnancy which the triage midwives were very dismissive of. I think this is down to the fact they are understaffed and don’t have space but still, I was told it was a stomach ache when actually I was having contractions by trying to pass the kidney stones.
I would go to darenth again as I’m not sure it would be any different anywhere else as the nhs is so strapped at the min. Congratulations on your baby! X

Thank you sheyla, did you find them friendly? i’ve heard some real horror stories about midwives x

That’s great to hear thank you, it’s only 18 minutes away from where i live so not too far to drive which is great, did you find the midwives friendly? im quite anxious anyway and as this is my first baby i’m definitely full of questions and want to be around friendly understanding midwives! 👶🏼 Thank you and congratulations on your birth! xxx

all they are very friendly, I’m 34 weeks and all the time they are very helpful. So no worries about that

that’s great, thanks for replying! x

and congratulations!!! x

everyone who I had look after me was lovely. The only unpleasant experience I had was with an ultrasound technician. She wouldn’t answer any of mine or my partners questions and called us shallow for wanting to know the gender.
I complained with pals and they told us she’d suffered a bereavement recently.
That was the only negative experience I had xx

oh my goodness thats not nice at all, thanks so much for your responses xx

Hey I had my baby at DV and I had a really positive experience overall. I think like anywhere, there may be a few members of staff you may find could come across a bit dismissive but honestly, majority are amazing! All the midwife’s I saw were all really friendly and caring. I did see a few different ones for my appointments but they were all great. I had quite a few issues during my pregnancy and I always felt well looked after. Birthing experience was good too! I would have another baby there x

oh that’s fab! think i’ve made a good choice. congratulations lovely xx

I really liked it there. No issues at all

Had both my babies at Darent, but living in Orpington it’s very rare you get to actually go to Darent for appointments, they normally send you to sidcup (Queen Mary’s) for scans, which I wasn’t a fan of as feel like the scans at Darent are so much better than at sidcup and the man that did a few of mine messed them up so specifically asked not to have him again and after that it was fine. The check ups are with the Darent midwives but at Queen Mary’s too.
However, both my births, which were very different (one natural and 1 emergency c-section) were fine and some of the midwives I had were amazing! Saw quite a few because of their shift patterns ☺️

i just found this out! midwife called me - my midwife appointments are at st mary’s but scans are at darent valley!! which im glad about! first scan is at darent valley on 11th march , and first midwife appointment is queen marys on 15th feb! xxx
