I’ve been weighing our now 7 week old once a week. I have used 3 different scales but all official baby weighing scales at the places advised by the midwives. We had been having very good gains of 35/40g a day but this week it showed a gain of 40g for the week.
Babe is BF feeding well and nappies all good and she seems happy alert etc… can this be right? Seems a bit of a worry. She’s definitely more awake this week.

I think midwives and health visitors recommend weighing once a month to get a more accurate result.

Is she still tracking along the weight trajectory she’s been on or has it lowered? Agree that monitoring over a longer period may be helpful but I’d also discuss with health visitor now.
We took our little boy to the weigh in clinic when he was 7 weeks as we’d started bottle feeding (expressed) and I wanted to check he was managing weight wise. He was but HV was concerned at slow weight gain for his age, so she suggested swapping sides during feeding to encourage supply and trying a small amount of formula afterwards to see if he was still hungry. Over the course of a week he only took the formula a couple of times. GP weighed him again at 8 weeks and he’d put on 250g in that week. Next weigh in is today so hoping he will have increased again and can go back to less regular monitoring.
I bought an electric pump and use it between and before feeds, then feed from the side I pumped - we think he may have been getting too much foremilk, not enough hindmilk but this seems to help.
