So I'm prepping bottles at the moment for overnight because it's exhausting having to make them fresh in the middle of the night so sleep deprived.
I'm using kendamill. My LO was on SMA but wasn't agreeing with him so I'm switching him to another formula.
Online there are mixed reviews on bottle prepping. Some say its fine if used within 24 hours.. but then kendamil webpage says its not recommended to bottle prep.
So I'm confused.... I genuinely don't have the energy to bottle feed fresh during the night.
Any advice would be appreciated. X

I have a prep machine that makes them in 2 mins and they come perfect temp which is great if your baby doesn’t like cold milk. Total lifesaver especially for night feeds. However when my lo goes to his nanas she preps the bottles and keeps in fridge no problem at all as long as used within 24 hours as you say. My lo won’t drink his milk cold so we do have to use a bottle warmer to warm it up x

I personally have been bottle prepping using Kendamil and had no issues. He's six weeks old now, I think Kendamil are staying on the safe side of legislation and saying 'not recommended'. If you look at most other formula providers they have a similar line to bottle prepping. The other option if you're really worried is the pre-prepared UHT bottles of Kendamil you can buy on their website or in store but this can work out expensive. Xx

@Charlotte oh ye of course! We always warm it up... I just wanted to check it was safe. We have a prep machine but hubby is against it cos apparently its not sterile enough 🧐 I don't know why he thinks that...

@Georgie ohhhh god the preprepped UHT bottles are super expensive ! 😅😅😅 I brought 4 today for emergency and it came to £6.00! Crazy !
However since you've personally been doing it yourself on the same formula and have had no issues- I feel better 😅

I use kendamil and do it. I know some people were advised against by their HV but mine said it was fine x

amazing ! :,) as long as it works and little one is putting weight on - guess that's the main thing. Thanks for your advice x

Yes, it gets mega expensive 😭 I've got some as 'emergency last resort' out and about formula but hopefully you've been reassured ❤️

I prepped bottles and put them in the fridge for my son and he’s now 1 and off bottles and he’s been fine! ☺️ I never used them if they were in there over 24 hours so I only did a few at a time x

We’ve used the fridge method since the beginning x

he’s right - the prep
Machines aren’t recommended

Yes it says on the can it's good in the fridge for 24 hours

I prep mine and have done with both my kids 24 hours in advance and keep them in fridge, even health visitor didn’t complain about it. My mum did it with me and my siblings and my nan did. Never caused anyone any harm. My daughters also on prescription milk and I still do x

Do the hot shot method, only takes a couple of minutes and is ready to go

I’m interested in this too… I have a prep machine but it’s a pain to go downstairs in the middle of the night and my HV wasn’t very pleased today when I said I have one.
How do you prep in advance exactly? And how do you warm them? Surely that takes a long time?

I prep with a kettle & I don’t warm them

We take sterilised bottles up, kendamil formula pre scooped in a formula powder seperater thing, a flask of hot boiled water and a bottle with cool boiled water. When baby wakes up we do the hot shot method 🩷 we had a prep machine too but my partner is against it too lol!!! Im like ok but im the one having to make them fresh every time 🙃😂🤣 but the hot shot method is working for us right now xxx

do you just put the cooled boiled water in any sealed bottle? I’m just worried it will still be too hot doing the hot shot method 🙈🙈

I used Nuby rapid cool, so worth the money! You can use it when you go out too! Life saver.

I think it’s fine. But if you’re concerned you can get the ready made kendamil bottles and just keep one for night feed. That’s what we do with our twins. So on normal formula all day then for the middle of the night feed we take two bottles of ready made up and two of their empty bottle and just open/ pour it in when they wake to feed x

with the rapid cool… do you have to sterilise it after each use?? So you can literally just use it for one feed and then can’t use it till it’s washed and sterilised? x

yeah I just pop it in a sterilised bottle for nighttime and for going out, I leave the lid off slightly for a little and then eventually once cool I pop the lid properly on. We also have a jug for at home which we put boiling water in and wait to cool then pop in fridge so it’s extra cold lol. It’s a bit tricky sometimes I make it too warm but it’s working so far 🤞🏼 xx

loool crazy xx

thanks girl xx

thankyou xxx

@Sophie what's that ??

how does this hot shot method work ??

how many ounces does your baby drink?

only if you put the formula in there, if you use the hot shot method and just add the water you don’t x

ohhhh so you can pop boiling water in and then it cools it so you can use that for the day/night as it’s in a sterile flask?! That makes so much more sense lol thankyou! Might have to look into one rather than cooling the boiled water myself haha xx

you have boiling water in a flask. Cool boiled water in a sterilised bottle. (For daytime I cool some boiled water and have it in the fridge in a jug!). Have all your bottles ready sterilised.
When baby is hungry pop about an oz of boiling water in their bottle, add your formula and mix it (this kills the bacteria) - this is your ‘hot shot’. Then add the rest of the feed of cool boiled water. So for example for a 4oz feed do 1oz of hot water and 3oz cool boiled water xx hope this makes sense! xx

We do a days worth in the evening, works well for us. When she was younger if we did it when she was hungry would have a very unhappy little girl

May sound a bit extra but at one point we had two thermal bottles, one with boiling hot water and the other with cooled sterile water. Put them both on the bedside table with the caps You can use a shot of the hot water to mix formula and kill bacteria and then the rest of the cool water so bottle is ready for feed straight away, that way everything is within arms reach x
This worked for us very well as the kitchen was 3 floors down so even to get a bottle from the fridge and microwave was hard work when that sleep deprived 😩

Formula should be fine pre-made for 24 hours if kept in fridge. Which is even better if your child doesn't mind cold milk so you don't have to warm. But I found it easier to prep the water in the bottles and then just add the formula. You can either measure straight from container or use a formula dispenser cup and keep by your bed with bottle for quick and easy night bottles.

4 x

interesting!! Xx
