Low mental health

I messaged my midwife the other day saying I’m feeling quite low and the NHS website said to contact my midwife. She responded that I could go to talking therapy. When I asked how I do that she told me to google it. Is that normal? I am feeling quite low and it sounds silly but just messaging her was a big step and I can see me proactively googling and sorting talking therapy myself

Show your support

Hiya, I would contact the GP, they can make referrals on your behalf and point you in the right direction of support you can receive. Hope you get the support you need soon x

I’m so sorry for the lack of support from your midwife. Personally, the step of researching and making an appointment was the hardest part for me when I was at my lowest. It can feel incredibly overwhelming and debilitating. Is there someone in your life that you can ask to help with that?

I’m not sure how healthcare works there but I would think she’d be more helpful than that. Here I would login to my insurance companies website or call and get a list of therapist in my network and then call to get an appointment.

Hi I work in mental health, if you google your local talking therapies website they usually have an online self referral form. She probably means that but has given a less than helpful response! In my experience both personal and professional, midwives massively lack understanding of mental health and how services are set up! Not all but a lot of the time x
