Hands down best money I ever spent was on a post partum night doula. My advice is to secure one asap as the good ones book out super fast. Ann Darcy and Tara Carolan are golden. Bay Area night doulas rep them both. I think both are booked for the remainder of the year but worth asking. If finances allow do 7 nights a week for the first 8wks. We were only planning on 6wks. We’re now in week 11! If I could afford it I’d keep them until 20wks.

Doulamatch.net Mika Cade is our doula and has a network of doulas of color at a variety of price points. She offers prenatal support, labor support and postpartum help on a sliding scale. I’m a firm believer that doulas should be considered a part of maternity care, covered by insurance (blue cross had a pilot program to provide evidence on this), it shouldn’t just be for those who have private funds, but thankfully many doulas do offer sliding scale. Pacifica Birth Center in Berkeley has a list of doulas on their website, too!
