C section and driving

I drove after 2 weeks, the 6 weeks is overall advice given , it’s whether or not you’re able to keep adequate control of a vehicle, people will say check with your insurance etc but I was a motor trader with insurance for multiple cars and my broker assured me it’s more down to ‘if you’re able to keep control of your vehicle’ the same rule about wearing flip flops etc .. so if you feel okay, maybe go out without baby if you can for a short drive first then just go for it x

I was told by the hospital I need to get the all clear from my doctor or my insurance will be void! That’s why I’m conscious of it really I don’t feel like I can’t I’m also 2 weeks I’m walking about fair distances etc no trouble getting up and down or anything like that! X

if you want, ring your insurance company as I don’t believe that information is correct x

I’m gonna put a request for a call back from the doctors anyway so I have that but I do think it’s mainly based off if you feel well enough to drive etc which i do, I’m itching too!! My partner doesn’t drive so we are going mad I feel bad as well as he booked a third week off and we can’t do anything! Ahaha xx

yeah I’ve told my husband after week 3 I’m back behind the wheel (as long as I have no complications etc) but I would recommend going out on your own, or with someone else but without baby just for a tester! X

You’re not insured before then unless you speak to your insurance company. 6 weeks is recommended as you aren’t internally healed and if you had an accident it could cause big issues (and can hinder you being able to perform an emergency stop). I waited 6 weeks and even though it was tough I’m glad I did

(I did also speak to doctors but they recommended 6 weeks to me)

The 6 weeks rule is very outdated and rarely accurate now days.
I wouldn’t phone your Dr first. Go straight to your insurance. My insurance had no limitations and they said I could drive whenever I felt able (I did so after 2 weeks). If you speak to your Dr and they’re old fashioned and say 6 weeks, then you are bound to that regardless of your insurance, otherwise you’re going against Drs orders.

The key reasons for the guideline is your steering wheel airbag. They don’t want to scare you but the truth is, driving too soon and having a collision, that airbag will open you up in the front seat.

Also, you must be off painkillers. Even codiene as a opioid is legally drug driving and if stopped you can be charged.

You need to be able to withstand an emergency stop and be able to turn safely etc.

It’s about your healing and drug use. You need to be safe to be in control of a car and safe to be in a collision. Hence 6 weeks healing xxx

You need to see what your insurance say. Mine just said as long as I was able to emergency stop, wear my seatbelt and wasn’t on strong painkillers they didn’t really care

When I went for my 6 week check my GP literally couldn’t have cared less about my check. Until I said I’d taken myself off my BP tablets (I am a midwife and had been checking it myself at home) she wasn’t even going to review my meds!

You need to be able to perform an emergency stop. Apparently if you can jump off your bottom stair pain free that’s a sign you can do it 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I’ve never attempted.
I just think you’re still healing inside and you’re putting a lot of other people at risk if you drive too soon

I drove after 2 weeks, spoke to my insurance to double check and they said because you’re not signed off through the DVLA after c sections if you feel ready to drive then that’s fine. Then I just covered my ass by phoning the doctors and they said the same happy for me to drive so I did.
The part I actually found most difficult was the pram in and out!

I was cleared to drive after like 2-2 1/2 weeks I just used a seatbelt cushion and drove very carefully

My Ob signed me off to drive at 2 weeks.

I drove 8days after surgery c-section and i was fine ...

I drove after 2 weeks but only local. Its true, insurance its invalid, i just hoped nothing would happen!

I would speak to your midwife and see what she says as to whether you should or not
