I’ve just come away from my anatomy scan. They’ve said her spine is in line and nothing breaking through her skin etc. but there’s an extra bone near her coxis. I was taken to a side room and told they would need to refer me to a specialist and have me rescanned. Wouldn’t it be obvious at this stage to tell clearly if she had SB? They said it was 50/50

I had my anatomy scan done at 22 weeks. When doing it they noticed that there was an abnormality right away. We got consulted right away saying it was either some type of mass or it was indeed SB. We were sent to a specialist for a second opinion to determine whether or not it was SB and if I was a candidate for fetal surgery. We then found out it was SB and located from his L4 down.
They probably have their suspicions on what it could be, but want that second opinion before they continue further.
I’m 37 weeks with my boy, and it was pretty clear to them that he has SB. In your case, they could clearly just be looking at every option but from what I know, and I’m a FTM so I don’t have a lot of information, SB is where the spinal cord grows outside of the body or there is some sort of gap. I’ve not personally heard of cases of SB where there was an extra bone so it could be something else that just so happened to form in early development.

Regardless of what they do indeed end up calling it, I wish the best for you and your daughter! If it helps any, the lower the lesion on SB patients, the greater the outcomes for them.
My little guy has brought me so much joy and just knowing he’s healthy regardless of his diagnosis makes it all worth it. I wouldn’t trade him for nothing!

Thank you so much for your advice and reassurance it’s just been a bit of a shock x

I completely understand! It’s a lot to process, but it won’t change the way you look at your little! If anything you’ll love her more!
