Tips for phasing out breastfeeding

I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding my little boy for the past 4 months, ideally I wanted to make it to 6 months but it seems like he now is refusing to feed off me and it’s really upset me but at the end of the day a fed baby is what is the most important thing and my mental health is taking a hit with him screaming at my boob all day at night instead of just feeding, can anyone help me out on how I’m meant to phase out breastfeeding without getting engorged or mastitis

I'm sorry to hear it's hard. Nursing strikes can really take a hit, but massive congratulations on making it 4 months. Breast feeding isn't easy! Sometimes nursing strikes only last a few days and there's tips to get over it if you want to continue breast feeding, but sometimes they strike and wean themselves off.

Ways to dry up supply, take sudafed or other decongestants. Cabbage leaves in ur bra, ibuprofen, and only hand express a little bit when very engorged to realise pressure but only if it's painful. Best of luck xx

I would seek some help from a lactation consultant if I were you. Baby’s don’t really wean themselves off the breast before 1. It sounds like a nursing strike which I had with my second baby and it is something which could be overcome if that’s what you wanted. Hang in there!!

What I was thinking of doing when transitioning to formula was continue to pump and freeze so if it all goes tits we have back up. 🤣🤣

I was combination feeding
However my little one has also started to refuse breast
Ive tried skin to skin
Going in the bath together
Being calm
Being playful

I'm still expressing

I'm gutted that my little one is refusing boob
Any advise you can give would be gratefully appreciated x

@Jennifer https://laleche.org.uk/nursing-strikes/ is a good source. My little lady went on a strike and it lasted around 4 days, I had to pump again 😭 I hated it! We combi feed too x

she's been striking close to 2 weeks
I keep blaming her snuffy nose but no one is giving her cures for it x

I found side laying on the bed when she's sleepy or just as she's waking up helped us alot then she kinda got back into the habit xx

I will try that
I did try something similar this morning
But that didn't help xx

@Jennifer good luck x

Oh that sounds like a nursing strike. It's really really hard and I feel for you but it did only last 5 days for me then baby fed as normal. He ate well while half asleep so I had to rock him to sleep the whole time. Definitely get a pump or hand express to prevent mastitis

Baby was 8 weeks at the time and I went out every day as weirdly he fed better in public and I needed to get out

Just go to formula. And he could be starting to show he's ready for more actual food and try going to bottles

Four months is a fussy time for breastfeeding it's not you! It's a developmental stage that will pass. It's happening because they're growing more aware of the world around them and getting distracted!

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

6 month old autistism

My 6 month old makes no eye contact with me and doesn’t respond when I call him. Can this just be a phase or personality trait as apposed to autism

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

Baby with chronic congestion

Hi everyone! My 1 year has been a congested baby since birth almost. She breathes through her mouth so often that it wakes her up multiple times at night and she cries and screams and then struggles to go back to sleep. She wakes up every 1-3 hours and sometimes can’t go back to sleep for 2-3 hours!!! Piriton is the only thing that seems to help her sleep mostly through the night but I can’t keep giving her that!!
Does anyone have tips as to have I can do or give her? Has anyone experienced? I have no idea when I’ll get an ENT appointment and I have no idea what he can give a 13 mo :( we are desperate for sleep so any tips are welcome!! We have tried steam inhalation, saline drops, vapour rubs and everything off the counter basically!
