Hey, I am meant to be returning to work around the end of November from maternity and I would have about 35 days worth of holiday to use from the time Iv been away but I wanted to know if I could request the holiday back as paid instead? Has anyone had this with their company before?

I believe this is company digression.
Some companies will others won't.
It depends on company policy. If they actually pay unused holidays. Typically, because your maternity ends at the end of the year almost you can move them to the next year and use them then.
In some cases people technically end their maternity leave a month or so before they actually go back and take the accrued leave in a block so they get paid for those holiday days before returning to work
You don't have to end the maternity earlier to use your holiday right after. Remember that once you go off maternity, your rights also as the employee change
