My 4 month old is bottle fed expressed milk, he’s a big baby and always hungry. He sleeps between 3-5 hours at night, but I feel like if he was on formula he would be going a lot longer. Does anyone give their breast fed babies a bottle of formula at night to help them sleep better? Does it make a difference?

I don’t give formula (couldn’t if I wanted to because he won’t take a bottle at all, love that for me 😂) but he sleeps 8-10 hours of a night. Now he used to wake frequently but one day it just clicked for him.
I truly believe sleep is baby/ routine dependent far more than the method of feeding. If baby gets enough calories in the day they’re less likely to wake overnight so you’d be better to focus on increasing calories in the day.
I also have a big baby he was born on the 97th centile and feeds every 90 minutes during the day which can be demanding, but the pay off is he sleeps well at night xx

My baby is combi fed (primarily breast, couple of bottles of formula). I don’t find it makes any difference whether he has breast or formula in the evening/overnight. Have also tried a whole day of formula a couple of times and that didn’t make any difference either.

Thankyou girls! I will probably stick with expressed milk for now if it probably won’t make much difference. I don’t want to give him any more stomach aches! Hope he sleeps longer stretches soon 🤞😂 xx

it still might be worth you trying formula just in case it does help…these babies all seem so different! However I can definitely say it made zero difference for us unfortunately. Hopefully we will get longer sleeps eventually 🤞🏻🤞🏻

My little one is EBF and sleeps 8-10 hours through the night. I breastfeed all day & give a pumped bottle at night before bed. I personally feel like this makes him sleep better, I believe he drinks more from a bottle so stays fuller longer, but I obv don’t know that for a fact and I could just be that I have a good sleeper. I would say that I feed him a lot more during the day than other friends feed theirs. I read a book called the sensational baby sleep plan or something like that & I took the advice of “the more calories they get in during the day, the less they’ll want at night” seems to have worked for us. 🩵
