Those of you whose babies are down to two naps, how did you know they were ready?
What was the transition like?
My LO has been refusing to take her last nap until gone 5pm, so bedtime is being pushed back and back.
We've only just sorted sleep out so hoping for any tips and tricks to make the transition as easy as possible!
Picture of my little gremlin because she's so cute 😍

That was the exact sign for us! We had just nailed sleep as well... Cheeky babies aren't they. But honestly it was fine, earlier bedtime for a little bit whilst he adjusted but all good now :)

Should say for our wake windows we increase them through the day (2.5hrs, 3hrs then 4hrs final one) and that works for us and helped the transition

@Stace thank you! Did you build up to that at all? Or just go for it one day?

He sort of transitioned himself, his first nap of the day has started to be around an hour and a half long which pushed his second nap later in the day around 1:30/2 so although he’s very tired towards the end of the day his bedtime is now around 6/6:30 and it seems to have stuck that way? Not really any advice there so I apologise 🤦🏼♀️

sorry to jump in this with the 4hour wake window are they in bed and asleep before that or going down to bed at 4hours. My babe is only taking a 10/15min afternoon nap so slowly reducing this down but his middle nap ends about 2 and bed is around 6:45 so wondering if we could drop and be in bed at 6 but wouldn’t be asleep at 6 xx

we just went for it! I decided no naps after 4 because they were always so difficult, and that just stopped the nap. Didn't look back! If he has 2 short naps sometimes we'll have a quick one around 3 for half an hour but that is so rare these days

in theory asleep by then but to be honest it stretches sometimes. Today he woke at 2.30 from his nap and was asleep by 6.45... sometimes he'll wake at 2 and may be awake until 6.30 but then I really have a long wind down in the evening. What I found when I dropped the nap was that the earlier ones got naturally longer so you may find that when you drop the last little nap! Xx

My little one need a minimum of 3 hours wake window now so squeezing 3 naps in was just not happening anymore x

@Hayley this is what I'm finding. Just worried as although her first 1 naps are usually an hour, occasionally she will throw a short one at me and that would obviously mess the day up!
I'm going to give it a go tomorrow and see how we get on!

If the last nap is getting too late, stop it and bring bedtime forward! The fact they are then getting a bit less day sleep accounts for the earlier bedtime!

@Amy Draper yeah but I don't want to put her to bed at 5.15pm....I feel like that's way early. So would need to tweak the times of her other naps so that last wake window isn't as long as it would be if I skipped the last nap.

what time would she wake from her 2nd nap?
When I moved my little girl to two naps, I pushed her morning wake window to 3 hours!

@Amy Draper if I carried on the way it is at the moment she's awake by half 1, maybe 2 if I'm lucky.
So going to push first nap back by half hour and second nap back by half hour so she doesn't have to try and do 4 and a half hours at the minimum.

thank you that’s good to know so he can last over 4 hours. We have a short morning nap and a long lunch one so in total if he was 2 naps about 2hours sleep a day to 2 and half hours xx

also with these wake windows what time are your naps at and for how long xx

as a rough guide, wake 6.30, nap 9 for 1hr-1hr30 I would say (usually bang in the middle of that), then next nap is usually between 1 and 2 depending on when he woke for same amount of time. Always awake by 3 and down by 6.30-7 usually. No matter when he wakes he cannot go past 7 😂 hope that's helpful xx

My LO could still do with the 3rd nap but he disagrees 😂 if it hasn’t happened by 3:30 then I keep him awake and put him to bed at 6.
It’s been working for us (he gets grouchy at dinner time) but we’ve been having 2 wake ups a night instead of 7 ☺️

if she throws you a short one in the morning, stick to the same nap time in the afternoon x

For those who do 6pm bedtime, did it have any impact on night sleep?
We are going to have to do 6pm I reckon, until she stretches those windows a bit more but I'm so scared she will want to start to the day at 4am.

we had some 5.30 wake ups but none as early as 4!

@Stace I suppose you just never know. I'm such an overthinker!

my nap times are same as you and I am the absolute same!! The fear!!! Let me know how you get on xx

@Becky she's coped quite well with the naps today! But that was definitely helped with a late wake up this morning. Will see how tonight goes 🤞
