Just got back home yesterday on the 27th, had the operation on the 26th
I’ve only had paracetamol since then. It’s been really painful. I can’t get out of bed without help, is that normal?
My husband is going to get ibuprofen and peppermint tea. The gas pain is no joke!!
I’m wondering if I should take the Dihydrocodeine they have prescribed ? Is it better for recovery? Or is it better to manage with paracetamol and ibuprofen.
What’s the best way to space out paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain management? They gave it together in the hospital. I was also on morphine whilst in hospital so I think it might better to space out.
The uterus contractions are quite painful too. I thought there’d be less postpartum bleeding too but it’s quite heavy.
Also is there any other way to sleep other than on your back ?
Any advice? I’m struggling.

i was in the hospital 4 days after my c section but at home i took 2 extra strength tylenol and my prescribed 600 mg ibuprofen every 6 hours & it helped a lot !!
getting out of bed is extremely painful & i needed help also!
try creating a ramp with pillows and sleep elevated instead of flat !
when getting up
use your arms to push yourself up vs straining your abdomen muscles to get up that worked wonders for me!

Hi lovely. I’ve not had my elective CS yet but everything you’re describing sounds very normal from what I’ve been told by doctors and all the people I know who have had them. It’s advised you do as much movement as you can - little and often. However, listen to your body. Remember, you’ve just had major surgery. Most people have said the first week is the worst and then it starts to get better. I can’t advise on what medication is best as I’m not a doctor but try to relax and not get yourself stressed/worked up. A lot of people have suggested sleeping sitting up at the beginning and you can get pillows to accommodate this. The bleeding is totally normal too. Someone recommended disposable CS pants to me. You can buy in bulk from Aldi I believe! I really hope you start to feel better soon 🩷

also use a belly binder and wear it over your insison it helps with the pain & the cramps !!
a heating pad on the shoulders helped me with my gas pain also stool softeners and gas x !!
i know it’s hard right now but i promise there is light at the end of the tunnel stay strong momma!

With my daughter I slept on the sofa in an upright position for around 4 weeks as I couldn’t get up at all. It took me a long time to be able to move comfortably. I ended up in dihydrocodeine for around 3 weeks as I wasn’t able to manage on just paracetamol and ibuprofen. They did my incision quite low which I’m guessing is the reason. With my son 3 weeks ago, they made a total different incision which is higher than the first and I’m so grateful that they did as I was up moving around as soon as I felt my legs and recovery has been a lot easier. I managed on 1 paracetamol and 1 ibuprofen every 4 hours, even through the night and only took them for around 5 days when I remembered them.
I’d work out when you last took painkillers and set alarms for future doses, including through the night.

watch with ibuprofen it acts ad a blood thinner I'd deff do extra strength Tylenol. do you have a recliner. I slept in my recliner for 3 weeks. take whatever they gave you. I was prescribed oxy and maybe took 3 of them and just took Tylenol which helped alot better. showers also helped me

I have been setting phone alarms to make sure I keep on top of paracetamol/ ibuprofen alternating every 2 hours so it’s the 4 hour break in between each one. I have noticed when I miss one (even if I don’t feel like I need it) I suffer later on.
I had to sleep upright for the first few days and now on my side with pregnancy pillow between my legs. Peppermint tea helped with trapped wind also this only lasted a day for me! And my post partum bleeding has also been quite heavy also! Keep going! The first few days are the toughest and it drastically improves after x
Also forgot to ask about climbing stairs

for me it wasn't to bad just take your time

I took all three and still had some pain, so yes, definitely take it! The midwife gave me a schedule of when to take them- ask your midwife what it is.
Yeah, I found the gas pain really bad and had it for a lot longer than it says you're supposed to. The mint tea will help, lots of water, no fizzy drinks and something like Windeze will also help after you eat. Make sure you're taking the stool softeners the hospital gave you too.
Thank you for all the advice! I was basically on no meds this morning and felt like I was about to go insane. I’ve had a Dihydrocodeine at 12pm and ibuprofen at 2pm

Alternative your pain relief. If you got on with the Dyhydrocodeine take it. After both my sections I needed help with most things getting up. Going to the loo washing myself etc. took me about a 3 week before I could do those things totally without help. Xx

Totally normal to need support early on. My partner was having to get me dressed for the first week or so and support me with getting on the toilet/out of bed ect. I also found sitting down really painful, so when I was up I was mostly walking around. Definitely take it if you’ve got it, you won’t need it forever and you’ll know when is right to stop taking it. I was splitting the ibuprofen and paracetamol for maximum impact.
Back sleeping feels so bizarre after months of training yourself not to sleep on your back! I could go on one side after a few weeks (one side of my incision hurt more than the other).
I’m 5 weeks PP now and it definitely gets better xx

I was in hospital for 4 days after my c section. All I can say is it’s normal. The pain is absolutely awful and I remember crying days after, not because of my newborn baby but because of the pain and recovery. Rest as much as you can. Keep on top of pain killers and I’d also recommend some stool softeners for that first 💩 because you do feel like your belly will rip open. I would also encourage trying to lay flatter each night as this helps in healing and prevents the build up of scar tissue 🥰 you’ve got this 💪🏼

Only take paracetamol and ibuprofen. The other stuff makes you so constipated you end up having more problems! I used to space mine out 2hrs apart. So paracetamol then ibuprofen two hrs later and so on. It really helped me as I felt no pain at all really. Hope you get better soon! Xx

Get yourself some Buscopan asap to help with gas pain/spasms. I was in real trouble with this after my recent 2nd C section, even after having had 2 BMs. One eve i had the gas spasms, uterus contractions and lightening crotch at the same damn time! I was writhing and had to call triage on a Sunday night 😖. They advised my partner to go an get Buscopan for me first thing in the morning and it helped so so much! It gave me a bit looser BMs but i was so bad prior to it i couldnt even pass any wind whatsoever so i didnt care.
Also space out your pain killers tp alternate 4-6 hourly so you always have cover.
If you find the pain really bad you can ask for some Diclofenac suppositories (you put up your butt like the did after surgery) it replaces of Ibruprofen and is much more localised pain relief. I had quite bad wound pain this time around and it really helped me, albeit not the most pleasant method to take 🙈

I was in there 3/4 days and on mophone, etc. Can they not prescribe you anything stronger? Paracetamol doesn't touch me 😔
