Bugaboo Donkey 5 opinions?

Hi all!

I’m expecting twins in August, but have started the pram search now as I’ve been told it’s a minefield!

So far I’m leaning towards the bugaboo donkey 5, but I’m put off by the 1.5k price tag! Is it worth it? I live in a first floor apartment and will likely just be taking the twins around the village or for some off road walks as we live quite rurally, and it’ll likely be going in the car with us a lot.

I’m curious to hear your experiences and if you think it’s worth it if any of you have one - thanks!

I bought that buggy because I like my kids to face me until whenever.

You can add a step for older children that’s what I did

You can make it smaller in a few clicks so you might only have one baby with you at the time.

Also when it’s one seat there’s a shopping basket which I found handy when I only had one twin

The only think I wasn’t really liking was if you broke a part or need to replace your probably got to get the original I had problems tryna use maxi cosy adaptors even though bugaboo is compatible with maxi cosy

Hi, we had the bugaboo donkey 3 and personally loved it. When we was pram searching there wasn't many options and this seemed like the best deal but I think some other options have since come out.

I'm not sure what the differences are between the 3 and 5 but mine used to hold hands in the pram as they were sat next to each other. We have a Vauxhall insignia and it fit in the boot okay and if you re- arranged it in a particular way you'd still have a bit of room.

It's really easy to put up/ take down too. The more I used it the happier I was with it.....whereas with my first born I loved the pram until I had to use it and they were both a similar weight too x

I have it - very suited to village life and rural walks. Not so good for inner city/narrow pavements. We have managed to get through most doors/into most lifts since we’ve had it. It’s a beast but lovely to see them at the same time and is really nice to push. Fits in the bus. It’s wheelchair sized so we stick to accessible cafes etc.

Getting it in the car boot with the bassinets has been a challenge though - won’t go in the Audi Q3 so we’re having to take the pick up truck everywhere until they’re in the rumble seats. Just something to bear in mind!

I would just measure your front door! Oh and buy from John Lewis so you get the baby event discount…

I love it 😍 only door it doesn't fit for me is my front door but it lives in my boot, I have no use for it in my house. Fits in my car with space for shopping and stuff (I have a Peugeot 308) I just removed the parcel shelf. No issues when out and about traveling in shops and that, kids love being next to each other and I like the fact that they can both see everything (unlike tandems where one is restricted on the view). Definitely check Facebook there is a dedicated page for bugaboo selling and you can get one in great condition for less than the shops.

I have it and love it. My girls love it too. However it is really big. If you don’t have a big boot space you may struggle. I have a BMW X5 and it pretty much fills it x

Our twins aren’t here yet, but we have chosen the donkey 5. It arrived last week and I really like the look of it and how easy it is to push around. It was definitely the best of all the side-by-side options we looked at.
One thing to consider since you live in an apartment, is the width - I would strongly recommend measuring the width of your front door, then going and having a look at one set up in twin mode in John Lewis etc and getting the tape measure out to check it will fit through. It goes through our front door with about 1cm to spare! So imagine with an apartment door it might be quite tight too x

If you do lot of off road, I really recommend Out n About double nipper. As you said it’s really a minefield. We did buy iCandy Peach 7 after a lot of research and tried in store before our twins arrived, painfully cost us almost £1,600 😭 and it doesn’t work for us. Don’t get it wrong, iCandy is really good just if I live in the city, unfortunately we live in country side. So we bought our 2nd pram, OnA double, really love it, really easy to push for all terrain and the price is only 1/3 of iCandy or Bugaboo

I love my donkey 3, as far as I remember there wasn’t much difference between the 3 and 5 though which is why we went for the 3 due to cost.

I have VW Golf and it’s just about fits in the boot. But I’ve never had any issues going through doors, buildings, lifts etc which is what amazed me the most. My twins look really comfortable in it and it pushes so easily. I am glad we picked this pram.

However it is heavy, which is the only thing I dislike but I guess nothing out there is 100% perfect.

I do so much walking every day and the buggy never fails me. When they were born they loved it from the off.

We couldn’t take it in the car when it was the carry cots but now they’re seats it goes in our car really well (Audi A3). The car seat adapter is great just make sure you check which car seats fit!

Something I would really recommend doing is going to the John Lewis nursery talk. When we did that you get a % off your end, total in nursery. We got the bugaboo donkey 5 and then two car seats(£500) and with the discount the car seats were actually free.

I live on a working farm . We have a donkey it's fab but I don't think it's great on real off roadkng.

I don't find it hard to fit in my car I've fitted into a full size range and a velar with room.

Out n about double is fab for off reading it's lightweight and fab off roading.

I had a donkey from when our twins were newborn to around 10 months. It was super useful for quick trips with the car seats clipped in as we had lay flat ones & nice and comfy for days out with the seat units but the putting up & down is a massive faff if you’re doing it frequently or getting it in and out the car often. It takes up a lot of space- doesn’t fit through many narrow doors (especially with car seats on) it’s awful off road in comparison to the out & about nipper we got once they were bigger. The out & about is also so easy for them to climb in and out of easily and safely now they’re walking confidently. I’m absolutely glad I got a second hand donkey & had it cleaned and serviced professionally- I’d of been mortified to spend so much money on a new one to replace it around a year old.

If I was doing it from the start again I’d get the Mountain Buggy double as they’re a smaller fold & can still parent face etc but far narrower than the donkey & still really good off road

I have a duo cuplo from smyths cause I wasn’t willing to spend loads on a buggy plus it grows with them

I have 2 sets of twins and I had /have bugaboo donkey with mine, I also had the icandy! I love my donkey and would pick this pram over and over again! I love how I can see them both side by side and never liked the thought of one of them being on the bottom. I ended up using the icandy when my first set was 2/3 instead.

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?

Breastfeeding

Does it ever feel better? The actual feeding part of it is going really well and baby boy is growing so well. I’m struggling with how my boobs feel day to day - it’s really getting me down most days. The let downs make me feel awful and sounds silly but, I am also really missing not wearing a bra! 9 weeks postpartum and still getting fairly engorged, even with comfort pumping.

Any advice or just shared stories would help. I’m so torn between carrying on because I enjoy the feeding side of it or switching to formula.

Big nursing bras!

I’m looking for recommendations for good nursing bras for bigger breasted ladies!

I’m currently in a 38H which seems to be the biggest size done at M&S (UK based mama here) and it’s snug and not as supportive as I’d like. When I look online, they mainly seem to be sized S, M, L, XL etc rather than bra sizes.

Any recommendations please?
