Night Terrors

Anyone else’s little ones have night terrors? My little one has them every month or so since she was around 8 months old & now just turned two. Any tips on how to stop them or settle them? It’s upsetting to watch and I can’t calm her

Is she awake when she has them/coherent somewhat. My brother had them when he was little and he said he saw “shadows” and we had to put sunglasses on him to stop his screaming when he had them. Might not be the same thing, but it may help. Good luck, hope you get to the bottom of it, poor little girl.

Yes she seems to be half awake, she screams of us and will hit and fling herself. Oh I had no idea they could be seeing things? 😳

Oh goodness, sounds so scary for you to witness too. I’m guessing she’s too inconsolable to tell you what is scaring her too? It took a while for my brother to say he could see shadows. Does it make any difference if you turn the lights on/off for example when she wakes. It might help rule out whether something she has seen has spooked her or not

All you can do is talk calmly to her, reassure her (“mummy’s here”) and ride it out. Sit and cuddle her if she will allow. DO NOT TRY ANYTHING TO WAKE HER. It’s upsetting and you never get used to it (my girl is 8yo and still has them), I hate it! It’s something they have to grow out of unfortunately. Quite often it’s because something has woken them quickly?! So like with my daughter now it’s usually because she needs to pee (I know yours is much younger)
