What was the thing that helped you most with morning sickness?

7 weeks pregnant; the sickness is lasting all day everyday. I have a fear of throwing up so I always try to avoid it at all costs but do you feel immediately better after throwing up? What are some methods that work for helping you feel better, and when will it go away?! Thanks x

Eating!!!

I’m 9 months and still vomiting some days. Nothing worked for me completely but- ginger biscuits, eating very small bits and snacking, vitamin b6, anti sickness tablets, sea sickness bands, peppermint tea. The best thing is just to eat something tiny, even if it’s just a cracker, when you’re feeling nauseous. And keep hydrated- find a drink that doesn’t make you feel sick. X

I ate Weetabix with milk and sugar on top within half an hour of waking otherwise I was sick. The plain flavour and a bit of sugar helped a lot. Also if I woke in the night I would drink a pint of milk and that stopped me being hungry and then feeling sick. Eating all the time, like every hour eating something with a bit of sugar to keep me levelled.

Lemon or mint really helps me. So like a sherbert lemon, or a mint polo. Ginger didn't seem to do anything but those two do!

Avatar

Ginger beer/ale and eating plain oat cakes first thing in the morning. It’s counter intuitive but eating always helped

Avatar

just never letting yourself get hungry! I am never not nauseous but that helps me not feel as sick or at least not throw up

i try to eat every 2/3 hours even if it’s just a little snack
and before you get out of bed eat some crackers or something before baby figures out you’re awake😂

Avatar

i’m 31 weeks and 4 days and i still throw up 6+ times a day, something mf that helps me is eating something small AS SOON as i wake up and drinking cold water w lemon juice also see if your dr can write you a prescription for some zofran or promethazine

Avatar

Cold lemonade helped me!

Anti sickness meds

Avatar

Ginger ale and bananas saved me.

Avatar

Ginger biscuits and breakfast bars, mine got so bad I had to snack every hour sometimes half an hour, lucozade sport helps massively too, weirdly water made me sick aswell 😩 if really bad get medication, I had to

Avatar

And it lasted until 15 weeks and eased off from then… got it back in third trimester though

Avatar

Unisom sleep aid (doxylamine succinate) and vitamin B6 is the only thing that made mine manageable. That and snacking constantly. I see you're not in the US so I'm unsure of if you can get unisom

Avatar

I found that If I woke up feeling sick, that was it, I was sick the whole day nothing would help

But if the sickness came at some point during the day usually some stodgy food would help x

Avatar

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly.
Peppermint has been helpful for me (preferred to ginger for me) - I have kendal mint cake on me at all times in case I need to have a little corner to keep sickness at bay (unfortunately, not always possible).
Would recommend talking to your Midwife who can put you on anti sickness medication - you'll likely still be nauseous but shouldn't be sick as much.
Hope you're feeling better soon x

Avatar

I usually feel mich better after being sick, in the early weeks, the days i wasn't sick I felt worse. If it helps, morning sickness sick is not the same as normal. Mine is usually quite watery and I don't get that burning feeling in my throat. Its still not pleasant but its nowhere near as bad

Avatar

Eating a whole meal every time I felt nauseous was the only thing that helped! Defo not little and often for me!

Avatar

The short answer is: nothing will stop you from feeling sick. And trying all the things people recommend are often not very healthy so just set you off on a bad course.
Mental toughness and knowing it won't last forever, are what it takes. I can say that from experience, and I wish someone had said it to me first time I was pregnant because I ate shit loads of ginger biscuits, dry crackers, and fizzy drink, as everyone suggested and just ended up fat (and still feeling sick)!

Avatar

I had it really bad and ended up on anti sickness medication. The one I'm on is called Xonvea and it has made my life bareable again! Works really well for me. I was at the point where I couldn't keep anything down and was getting dehydrated so had to resort to medication. I still get waves of nausea but am rarely sick since going on it. I also found lemon helped- hot water with lemon slices was my go to drink as it took away the horrible taste in my mouth too.

Avatar

For me it was eating little and often. I found if I had an empty stomach I felt more sick but equally eating big portions made it worse too so I would try and eat something small and snacky every 1 and a half hours rather than big meals. Ginger is also meant to be good

Avatar

Absolutely nothing at home helped with 2 pregnancies, only very regular trips to the hospital for a drip

Avatar

Banana first thing in morning and breadsticks little and often through the day.

Avatar

Spicy noodle soup - nice strong flavour, nutrients, carbs, and plenty of fluids in it

I’ve threw up maybe 5x a day during pregnancy up until maybe 16 weeks before it started decreasing to 1-2x a day for the 2nd trimester. It’s different for everyone and some don’t even have this symptom so don’t be scared of the timeline, it might go away soon for you.

Definitely stay hydrated and eat! I found it hard to eat bc of the nausea but please force yourself for your own sake and the baby. Ginger (fresh ginger or ginger candies), eucalyptus/menthol oils (I used POISAN but vapor rub is similar), anti nausea tea, motion sickness relief bands/stickers. I’ve tried everything on the market and it didn’t stop the morning sickness but definitely helped curb it a bit. Fresh ginger worked the best for me; I had it alone, in tea, and cooked with it as well

Avatar

how is trying the things we recommend not healthy? I haven’t even seen unhealthy suggestions in this thread. Not sure what ginger biscuits are though so maybe that’s what you are referring to?

Avatar

@Karry it's not like what you call a biscuit in the states. It's like a hard cookie but made with ginger, and usually much less sugar.

Avatar

@Jessica when you're desperate enough, you'll try everything and anything. I've tried plenty and guess what - have barely put weight on by 22 weeks.
Just because they didn't work for you, doesn't mean they won't work for someone else.
This "mental toughness" stuff is malarkey

Avatar

Don’t let your stomach get too empty.

Avatar

When I was about 2 months I couldn't even for about 2 weeks and was constantly vomiting and lost about 12kg in the second week but I got medicine from my GP to help with that and then I didn't have anything till like 7/ 8 months pregnant and I was vomiting at work so I had to go on leave early and couldn't do anything cus it felt like a workout and I'd get so sick

Avatar

I’ve been using sea bands and eating very small amounts of easy food (like cheerios) in the morning. It’s been really helpful.

Avatar

Saltine crackers

Avatar

Throwing up can make it feel better, but I found that the bouts I had of it during the day were helped by wearing sea bands, sucking on lemonheads, and drinking Gatorade.

Avatar

Taking ginger chews and anything ginger drink helped

Avatar

Pink Stork Nausea Sweets

Avatar

Medication from gp, nothing else stopped it x

Avatar

Ice lollies, I would never normally eat them but whilst eating it and for a short period after I don’t feel sick. It’s the only time I don’t all day at 15 weeks pregnant. I am really hoping it passes soon though! Sipping water throughout the day and eating little and often is how I am tackling it. Things like grapes, raw carrot and cucumber sticks help me personally. Hope it passes for you soon too!

Avatar

When I had nausea/sickness I used the anti- nausea wrist bands, they’re just a bracelet basically with a ball that goes on the inside of your wrist. They helped a lot xx

Avatar

Anti sickness travel bands and seabands ginger drops, got both from amazon x

Small head reported following 20 week scan

Has anyone else had it flagged that their baby is in the bottom 5th percentile for head size?

They said everything was fine whilst we were in the scan and then I got a phone call the next day saying that it’s on the small side and we’re being referred to a paediatric specialist at St George’s. Has anyone else had this and how did things go??

Would you bring 9 week old to a family party of 35+ people?

These are also people who will want to pass the baby around and get a turn to hold him. He just got his 2 month shots two days ago

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?

Induction experience

I just wanted to share my experience with being induced as I wasn’t sure what to expect and thought it may help others.

I opted for the foley balloon which was inserted at 8am Saturday morning, I had to stay in hospital due to hypertension and protein urine however usually you can just go home once this has been done. The insertion of the balloon was not painful, was slightly uncomfortable as there was slight pressure. I actually found having the cervix checked prior to be worse (again not painful at this point just uncomfortable) The balloon had little effect and after having it removed I was still only 1cm. Removal also was pain free and hardly even noticeable.

I then had my first dose of the gel and definitely noticed a difference, I started experiencing period like cramps almost immediately however they were light and manageable. After 6 hours I had another cervix check and although my cervix was soft it was still only 1cm and was only open at the front. I had another dose of the gel and felt an increase in pressure and more intense cramping where I now required pain relief (codeine). After another 6 hours I had another cervix check and I had now dilated to 2-3cm however was still quite difficult to get all the way through so a third gel was recommended which I agreed to.

Almost immediately I noticed the difference and was in considerable pain, I had paracetamol and codeine however the contractions had now become intense and a lot closer together (around 3 minutes apart). After a couple of hours I had my last cervix check and was 4cm and taken down to the Labour ward to have my waters broken and an epidural.

I had been in my room for approx 20minutes when my waters broke by themselves and I was now 10cm and actively pushing…. There was no time for the epidural and my beautiful girl arrived into the world within 2 minutes of pushing.

All in all I would say the cramps/contractions were manageable up until the third gel where it became pretty unbearable however it was for a very short time a gas and air helped take the edge off. The worst part about any of it was actually the later cervix checks where after stimulating the cervix my contractions were at their most painful.

If I had to be induced again I would skip the balloon and opt for the gels immediately as thy had a quicker effect and I would have been out a lot sooner if I had done this to begin with.

One more thing, I’ve never believed when people say “you forget the pain once they’re here” but I can honestly say this is true. It’s been 4 days and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
