Any mamas on here who’ve had the membrane sweep?
How was your experience and did it help with bringing on labour?

I had a sweep with my daughter 5 years ago! Didn’t hurt one bit! I had it at 10am on the Wednesday and by midnight contractions had started! However it did end in an emergency c section! Nothing to do with the sweep though! Xxx

I think it caused me slow labour for 5 days last time because my body wasn’t ready.
Definitely not having them this time x

Depends how far along you are. I had sweeps at 37+ and they were awfully painful& did nothing.

To add I was also 41+1 (NHS dates) when I had one and he came at 41+6!
I had them to avoid Induction but later realised they are a form of Induction as they’re trying to bring on something unnaturally x

I had one in early labour with my first, didn’t hurt one bit and I progressed quickly after. I’ve been advised them from 38 weeks this time due to big baby, otherwise induction will be discussed and I’d rather sweeps than a formal induction. Its like with anything childbirth related though, everyone’s experience is going to be so different

I attempted a sweep but hated it so got midwife to stop. Babes didn’t come til 2 weeks later (41+5) I didn’t mind at all though because I really didn’t want intervention unless necessary luckily she came in the early hours of her induction day

Had a sweep 2 years ago with my first baby, it was very uncomfortable (make sure you wee before hand due to lots of pressure) but not painful
Makes you a little sore afterwards and went into labour a few days later

It didn’t hurt for me. I had one at 40 weeks with my first around 10am then my waters broke at 2pm same day 😱 4 hours later baby arrived 🥰
